Genuinely the highlight of our Rajasthan trip. The driver collected us right from our hotel in Jaisalmer and the drive out to the dunes was easy. Racing across the sand in the jeep had us laughing like kids, then the camel ride at sunset was so peaceful. The folk musicians around the bonfire afterwards were wonderful. Worth every penny of the $120.

An incredible evening in the Thar. What surprised me most was the food, the Rajasthani dinner was fresh, generous and completely vegetarian friendly, which suited us perfectly. The Sufi songs and gypsy dancing under the stars felt authentic rather than staged. Camel handlers were kind and patient with my mother, who was nervous at first but ended up loving it.

A brilliant experience overall and the sunset over the dunes was unforgettable. My only honest note is the afternoon heat in September was pretty intense during the first part of the jeep safari, so bring more water than you think. Once the sun dropped and the bonfire and dancing started it was perfect. The camel ride was gentler than expected. Still highly recommend.

Very well organised from pickup to drop off. Eight hours flew by. The jeep portion is bumpy and thrilling, the camel ride slow and calming, a great contrast. Loved that park fees, tea, snacks and dinner were all included so there was nothing extra to pay at the camp. The folk show was a beautiful end to the day. Fantastic value.

We travelled with two kids and this was ideal for a family. The camel ride is slow and safe, and the little ones were mesmerised by the fire dancers and drummers. Staff kept the water coming and made sure everyone was comfortable. Watching the desert turn gold at sunset with a hot cup of tea is something we will remember for years.

Did this in late January and the timing was perfect, warm on the dunes and cool by the fire. Bring a jacket for the evening as it gets chilly fast once it is dark. The Sufi music session was the standout for me, real local musicians with real skill. The dinner was hearty and the whole thing felt relaxed rather than rushed.

A lovely desert escape with beautiful scenery and warm hosts. Being honest, the drive from Jaisalmer to the dunes felt a little long and the group at the camp was larger than I expected, so it is more shared than private. That said, the camel ride at golden hour and the bonfire dance more than made up for it. Great vegetarian dinner too.

Everything about this delivered. Smooth hotel pickup, an exhilarating jeep ride, and then a serene camel walk across endless golden sand. The evening around the bonfire with folk music and gypsy dance was pure magic and the photos I got at sunset are some of my favourites from all of India. Our host looked after us the whole time. Book it.

Frequently Asked Questions

This full experience packs in a jeep safari across the Thar dunes, a traditional camel ride, a cultural show with folk music, Sufi songs and gypsy dance, plus a bonfire in the evening. On the food side you get afternoon tea, bottled water, evening tea and snacks, and a traditional Rajasthani dinner. Fuel surcharge and national park fees are also covered, so there are no surprise add-ons once you're in the desert.
There is a single option, From Jaisalmer: Jeep Safari, Camel Ride, Dinner and Folk Dance, priced at $120 per person for the full 8 hours. That price already includes your jeep and camel activities, park fees, dinner and the evening folk performance, so it's an all-in desert package rather than a bare ride.
Yes. The experience starts with a comfortable pickup from your hotel in Jaisalmer, and our driver takes you on a scenic drive from the city out to the golden sand dunes of the Thar. Just share your hotel name and room details when you book so the driver can plan the pickup time around the afternoon-to-evening schedule.
The tour is built around the golden light of late afternoon and sunset, which is the most beautiful and comfortable time to be on the dunes. You'll typically be collected in the afternoon, ride the camel as the sun drops, then stay for dinner, the bonfire and the folk show after dark before being driven back, with the full experience running about 8 hours door to door.
The safari and camp portion are set up as a shared desert experience, so you'll enjoy the folk show, bonfire and Rajasthani dinner alongside other travellers, which adds to the atmosphere. If you'd prefer something more intimate or guide-led in town, the Highlights of Jaisalmer half-day tour by car is a good private-style alternative for exploring the city itself.
It's an easy to moderate experience for most people. The jeep safari is a seated ride over rugged dune terrain, so expect some bouncing, while the camel ride is a slow, gentle walk across the sand. There's no long trekking involved, but you will step up onto and down from the camel, so basic mobility helps. Let us know in advance if anyone has back or neck concerns.
Yes, families and older travellers enjoy this tour regularly. The camel ride is slow and gentle and the jeep does the hard work across the dunes, so there's very little walking required. Younger children should share a camel with an adult, and we recommend a hat, water and sun protection for everyone during the daytime part of the safari.
You'll be served a traditional Rajasthani dinner in the desert camp, along with afternoon tea, evening tea and snacks. Rajasthani cuisine is famously vegetarian-friendly, with dishes like dal, bajra roti and local curries, so vegetarians are very well catered for. If you have specific dietary needs such as vegan or Jain food, tell us when booking and we'll arrange it with the camp.
After dinner you'll enjoy a live cultural show featuring Rajasthani folk music, Sufi songs and traditional gypsy dance, performed around the bonfire under the desert sky. It's an authentic, atmospheric end to the day rather than a staged tourist spectacle. For more of Jaisalmer's living heritage, the Journey Through the Golden Past heritage walk pairs nicely with this evening experience.
For the daytime safari, wear light, breathable clothing, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen, plus closed shoes that can handle sand. After sunset the Thar cools quickly, so bring a light jacket or shawl for the evening bonfire and show. We provide bottled water throughout, but you may want your own refillable bottle too.
The most comfortable window is October to March, when desert days are warm and evenings are pleasantly cool, ideal for the camel ride and bonfire. From April to June the Thar gets extremely hot in the afternoons, so book early or plan for the late-day timing. The tour runs year-round, and the sunset-to-evening schedule helps avoid the worst of the midday heat.
Yes. The camels are handled by experienced local cameleers who lead each ride at a slow, steady pace, and the jeep safari is driven by drivers who know the dune terrain well. A tour escort or host accompanies the experience, and national park fees are included so you're travelling in a properly permitted area. Follow the guide's instructions when mounting the camel and you'll be in good hands.
Absolutely, this is one of the most photogenic experiences in Jaisalmer. The golden dunes at sunset, the camel silhouettes and the bonfire-lit folk dance all make for stunning photos and video. Bring a fully charged phone or camera, and consider a small cloth to keep sand off your lens during the jeep ride.
This tour is all about the desert experience outside the city, not the fort. If you also want to explore the Golden Fort and old town, consider pairing it with the licensed Jaisalmer Fort guide experience or the heritage walking tour with a professional guide. Many visitors do the fort by day and this safari in the afternoon and evening.
You can book online in a few minutes by selecting the $120 Jeep Safari, Camel Ride, Dinner and Folk Dance option and your preferred date. Once confirmed, share your Jaisalmer hotel details so we can arrange the pickup. We'll send confirmation of your booking, and we recommend reserving ahead during the peak October to March season when desert evenings fill up quickly.
