This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by GuideMe Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

I really enjoyed my hour show with our beautiful Geiko - Katsusa-San. She was so honest and really gave us a good insight to her life as a Geiko in Kyoto. Our host, Aki was so welcoming and friendly, she really made everything perfect. Explaining and translating everything that we were told by the Geiko. We also received a welcome drink and cookie. The dance performance was magical and some were lucky enough to have a game with the Geiko. We all had a photo with her too. It was truly a lovely taste of Kyoto’s culture and I loved it. Thanks

We had a wonderful time learning about the tea ceremony while wearing our kimonos. It was very informative and very relaxing. As an older couple in our 70’s, they provided us with small stools to sit upon rather than the floor . The additional women in the establishment assisted us in selecting our kimonos and dressing us. Others did an excellent job of photographing us in various settings in our outfits.

It was a fantastic event from start to finish. We truly enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the Geicko and have a Q&A session. Very complete show from start to end. Highly recommend it to everyone vs the other ones offering just a performance without interaction opportunity.

The show was very nice and the hosts kept used well informed of each step. The Geiko-San answered all the questions we had and we got a chance to play games with her. We were also served tea/ water and a matcha cookie which was absolutely yummy

Amazing experience! 10/10 would recommend! Guide speaks flawless English, which makes everything easy to understand. Beautiful maiko who showed her kimono, did two dances, answered questions and took pictures with you. Very friendly people, amazing! Such a unique experience.

The Maiko San was great and very personable. I enjoyed playing the game with her and her dance performances. overall it was a great experience and I would recommend anyone interested in Japanese culture to experience this tour.
