Full description
This is a 125-minute experience in Kyoto. It is run by B.B.Advisors Inc. AN KYOTO, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.
The price covers A set of experience of 2 Types of Japanese Sweets making. It does not cover Adding color: 200 JPY, Sweets take-out box: 100 JPY and Experience completion certificate: 300 JPY, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Maiko was lovely. We made 3 sugar sweets and 2 sweet bean treats, as well as the tea ceremony. We really enjoyed learning the history of matcha. We had a good time.
The instructor was friendly and enthusiastic. Her English was good. This was fantastic value with making 3 different sweets and learning more about matcha tea, as well as making your own tea. Highly recommend this workshop!
This activity was one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto! We had so much fun learning how to make higashi and omogashi. We then enjoyed them while having a cup of delicious matcha. Would highly recommend it!
Maiko was attentive and informative. She did a wonderful job. Sadly the room full of tourists were rather disrespectful and noisy.
I thought it was good. The presenter translated everything into English which was very helpful. The sweet making was interesting. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought that we would do an actual tea ceremony but it was more an informative session and we made a cup of matcha tea.
Was ok but felt very clinical and like a classroom not authentic or intimate. We have had other tour experiences that were more personal and comfortable.
Me encantó. Muy bien explicado y es una experiencia agradable en especial para días lluviosos
Sincerely a wonderful experience.
Super host! De activiteiten zelf gingen erg snel.
