Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Japan Guide Stars, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Arashiyama, on Kyoto's western edge, is the bamboo grove, the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura river, the gardens of Tenryu-ji and the monkey park on the hill above. The bamboo path is about 500 metres and is photographed empty in every guidebook because those photographs are taken before 7:30; by mid-morning it is a procession. Rickshaw runs, the Sagano scenic railway along the gorge, and boat rides down the Hozu rapids all start here. Autumn colour peaks in the second half of November and cherry blossom around the first week of April.
The price covers Chopstick making workshop, Choose from over 10 types of high-grade woods, Tips for exploring Arashiyama, All tools and materials provided and staff. It does not cover The other high-grade woods, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Very friendly and understanding people, taking their time for you. Thank you guys!
Sammu was a brilliant guide helping me through the chopstick making process!
Really engaging! Fantastic guide and brilliant chopsticks!! So glad we did this!!
Very good, well worth it whilst in Kyoto, instructors are knowledgable and helpful
It was amazing. The staff is really nice and doing theyr best to guide you through alle the steps. We really enjoyed our time there. It is so worth it. And a good activity if the weather is not so good
It was so much fun! Sharif, Win, and Maria were so helpful and truly made it a memorable experience.
It was so much fun, our chopsticks turned out great. Our instructor Sammu was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Thank you so much!
Got caught by the rain in Arashiyama, so we ducked into this chopstick-making workshop — and it turned out to be the highlight of our day! Warm, calm, and totally hands-on. Our friendly host Utako walked us through every step, and even the kids got right into shaping and smoothing their own chopsticks. They wrapped them up beautifully too, so we've got a little souvenir that actually reminds us of the fun (not just the downpour!). Perfect way to turn a rainy day around. Highly recommend!!!!
Great experience overall. The instructors did a great job. They were very friendly and helpful. We left with a beautiful pair of chopsticks. The only downside I found was that the all the extras (different wood selection, engraving) were really overpriced.
It was also great to be able to enjoy a one-hour workshop while sightseeing in Arashiyama. Making something myself that I can keep as a souvenir and a special memory of my trip made the experience even more meaningful. I would definitely recommend it!
I had a wonderful time making my own personalized chopsticks. The guide was very kind and explained everything clearly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this experience! Thank you very much.
Very enjoyable. Perfectly suited for all ages. and a great break from the scorching warm of the period.
