Full description
This is a 3-hour experience from Kyoto, built around Iwatayama Monkey Park, Local restaurant and Tenryuji Temple. It is run by Nara Guide, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Arashiyama, on Kyoto's western edge, is the bamboo grove, the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura river, the gardens of Tenryu-ji and the monkey park on the hill above. The bamboo path is about 500 metres and is photographed empty in every guidebook because those photographs are taken before 7:30; by mid-morning it is a procession. Rickshaw runs, the Sagano scenic railway along the gorge, and boat rides down the Hozu rapids all start here. Autumn colour peaks in the second half of November and cherry blossom around the first week of April.
Pickup is offered from Kyoto, Saga-Arashiyama Station and Hankyu Arashiyama Station; the exact spot and time are agreed with Nara Guide once the booking is confirmed, and the option you choose sets whether transport is included.
The price covers Live tour guide, Walk through the bamboo forest and Entrance fees to Iwatayama Monkey Park and Tenryuji Temple. It does not cover Lunch and Transportation costs, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Nara Guide sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Nara Guide before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Traveler Reviews
We had a great time seeing one of the iconic places in Kyoto. We took the subway from our hotel to the local train and then on to Arashiyama. It’s important to have Yen in exact amounts to pay for the train tickets and entrance to the monkey park and temple and gardens. We had a good curry lunch and some ice cream. We ended early and our helpful guide offered to take us to the castle, but we were tired and just headed back to our hotel. It was a beautiful day, sunny and comfortable. This activity involves a lot of waking and some stairs
