Full description
This is a 225-minute experience in Kyoto. It is run by NORU Kyoto City Cycling Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers guide, Bikes, Helmets and All entrance fees to attractions. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Traveler Reviews
We had a really great afternoon on the e-bikes with our wonderful guide Shizuka. Highlights for me were The Golden Temple and the Tea ceremony at the Daitoku-ji temple. Shizuka gave us a beautiful insight into the Zen philosophy.
After a long 26 hour journey from NZ, a refreshing e-bike tour through the Kyoto lime green leafy springtime back streets, to reach quiet zen temples, shrines and sipping chilled tea at a 1000 year old cafe was just the tonic my husband and I needed on our first afternoon in Japan. YUTA our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. He passionately shared super interesting cultural, religious, social norms and historical insights about Kyoto and its (relatively small) 1.5 million population. It’s easy to get distracted with the scenery, stories and local people. Keep looking out for the red traffic l
Best thing we did on our Japan vacation. Cycling was very easy and the stops were all worthwhile in their own way. Bikes worked great and our guide was perfect. I would repeat this one.
Henry our guide was entertaining and very informative. We had a small group of eight and the bikes were absolutely excellent. Great way to see Kyoto, particularly the temples.
We loved, loved, loved our bike tour with Henry. He was a fountain of knowledge and we saw parts of Kyoto we would have never found on our own. The bikes were fantastic and the day was perfect. Even on e-bikes, there was some exertion needed to climb the hills around Kyoto but it was well worth it!
We had a fun afternoon with Michael biking around his neighborhood in Kyoto, visiting shrines and temples and learning about Japanese history and culture. The bike route was well chosen, so there was not significant traffic to contend with and the E bikes were lots of fun.
Really cool tour, we got to see a lot of Kyoto in a small amount of time. We also learned a lot about the culture and Michael made it fun and interesting. Highly recommend.
Our guide Henry was amazing. He showed us so many places off the beaten tourist track that we never would have seen otherwise and it was so fun to explore Kyoto by bike! 100% recommend.
This was a great tour on bikes through Kyoto. Sean our guide provided us with so much information and adapted the tour to suit us. Thank you Sean for making this a wonderful experience. Highly recommend
Shawn’s knowledge of Japanese history and the Kyoto environment was superb and wonderfully presented. There was a great selection of places of interest.
Highlight of our trip!!!!’ Highly recommend!! Sean took us to lesser touristic places! He’s so knowledgeable and super friendly! And we got a workout!!!! Don’t miss it!!!
We had a wonderful bike tour with Henry – he was extremely knowledgeable about Kyoto and shared with us some lovely off the beaten path places that we rode to on our bicycles. Kyoto is a very busy city, but we felt very safe on our travels with Henry! I would not recommend this tour if are a first time visitor to Kyoto, but if you are a return visitor or add this in conjunction with a more typical tour,, it’s a perfect package!
