Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Viyago Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Arashiyama, on Kyoto's western edge, is the bamboo grove, the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura river, the gardens of Tenryu-ji and the monkey park on the hill above. The bamboo path is about 500 metres and is photographed empty in every guidebook because those photographs are taken before 7:30; by mid-morning it is a procession. Rickshaw runs, the Sagano scenic railway along the gorge, and boat rides down the Hozu rapids all start here. Autumn colour peaks in the second half of November and cherry blossom around the first week of April.
The price covers Metal shuriken casting workshop, Introduction to the history of samurai- and ninja-era, Step-by-step guidance from staff, Use of casting materials and workshop tools and Take home your handcrafted creations. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Viyago Japan sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Viyago Japan before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Fun thing/activity to do. You can choose the one you want to make. The Sojo was very nice
This activity was so awesome! I definitely had to put my arm muscle to use for the filing but it was so worth it!
So much fun and the teacher was very helpful!! I recommend this to anyone visiting Kyoto

It was a great experience! Yuki was very entertaining and helpful. It was very easy and interesting and informative. Highly recommend.
This was one of the most unique experiences we had in Kyoto. Inside a beautifully designed ninja house, we got to make our own metal shuriken through a real casting process. The staff carefully guided us through every step, from melting the metal to pouring it into the mold and revealing the finished shuriken. Watching it take shape was incredibly exciting, and being able to take home something we made ourselves made it even more special. The atmosphere was immersive, the explanations were easy to follow, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. Highly recommended for anyone looki
We had fun making our shurikens. It was a bit of work to shape the stars after molding. would have liked for the beginning work to be more hands on rather than the guide doing it, but the guide was awesome and fun.
