Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by 株式会社のぞみ, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers NIshiki Market tour, Making vinegar rice, Cutting fish from the block into pieces for sushi, Introduction to Japanese food culture and Making Sushi. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
株式会社のぞみ sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with 株式会社のぞみ before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

That was such a nice experience! We truly enjoyed our Sushi class in this nice cooking school. Our Guide had everything prepared and welcomed us warmly. She explained the process of preparing the rice, the soup and how to cut the fish. Then we already went hands-on and made our own sushi and soup. During the meal our guide was explaining a lot about Japanese culture and gave us nice tips of her favorite restaurants and bars. Highly recommend this class! Thank you for this unique experience!
An absolute highlight of our family Kyoto trip! Our guides were kind, knowledgeable, and incredible teachers. I can’t recommend this tour enough for anyone visiting Kyoto. It’s most definitely a must-do! We got to see how the salmon is cut at the fish market, make miso soup, and then make three different types of sushi and it was all topped off with sake, green tea, and a homemade matcha dessert. Incredible doesn’t express how cool this experience was. Out of the many things we saw and did in Kyoto, this topped it all. JUST BOOK IT!!
Our guide was so lovely and extremely helpful in making sure we learned the right techniques but flexible enough to help us explore our own flavors. E always wanted to prepare great sushi, and she has given us the skills to make it happen. Very gracious guide and her facilities were very professional. Highly recommended.
Very informative and interesting. Jenna was a great guide . Sushi was delicious
We have been there with a group of 7 friends and it was one of the most exciting activities of our Japan trip. It was fun, well organized and in a very nice ambiance. We learned in a short amount of time where to cut fish, how to cut it, how to do different sorts of sushi and miso soup.
Whole family loved it! Friendly and informative instructors.
The Instructor was not very engaged with the the group. I expected more interaction and hands on experience. The fish we got from the nearby market was great but did not justify the steep prize.
Leuk om zelf sushi te maken. Snelle en toegankelijke workshop.
Very nice for family entertainment
On recommande vivement.
