This is a 2-hour experience in Kyoto, built around Ben's Cookies Kyoto Shijo, Pontocho Alley and Statue of Izumo-no-Okuni. It is run by Localized Walking, Bike & Food Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

Our tour guide was Debora she was fantastic. Is a definitely an amazing experience see all the traditions and history of Gueisha couldn’t recommend enough. Me and my son was very happy with it.

Very nice and interesting tour. I did it with my family (hubby and 2 teenagers). Our guide, Yakuri, was very gentle and fun and learned many things about the geiko and maiko lifestyle as well as info about the Gion corner. Many thanks again to Yakuri and I recommend this tour especially in the evening in summer time because it is very hot and humid (July & August).

It was a great tour despite the heat. It was very interesting to learn about Geishas and their way of living and seeing the geisha districts throughout Kyoto. Definitely a highlight of my trip! Amy the tour guide was lovely and explained things really well.
