Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by JRT Group, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.
The price covers English‑speaking guide. It does not cover Food and drinks, Souvenirs and personal expenses and Transportation to/from the meeting point, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Traveler Reviews
there was no transportation included, the guide took us to a very expensive food place which was not good food either, we got better food one day prior when we searched ourselves. I would not do it again
Highly recommended for first-time visitors to Kyoto. A great introduction to geisha culture and the city’s night vibe.
Yuki was an absolutely fantastic guide! The 6 PM tour was wonderfully quiet and far less crowded, letting us explore at a relaxed, comfortable pace. Though there was a fair amount of walking, every moment was completely worthwhile. We loved every part of this lovely evening tour, and we highly recommend it to everyone!
Yuki was our tour guide and we had such a fantastic experience. She explained everything in so much detail and was also welcoming to all our questions and answered all of them. She was very polite to take our photos too. Would highly recommend the walk as it gives you a great insight to the culture and to explore paths we might not know of as tourists. Thanks a lot again Yuki
The small group size made it feel like a private tour. It was easy to hear everything and ask questions.
Description of your tour detail and what we actually did was different. We were disappointed in this tour.
I really enjoyed this tour. Kyoto at night is शांत and elegant, and we were lucky enough to spot a maiko—such a special moment!
A fantastic night experience! Walking through Hanamikoji felt magical, and the guide shared so many interesting stories about geisha and maiko culture.
The evening walk in Kyoto was one of the highlights of our trip. The city felt calm and charming at dusk, and the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about local culture while enjoying the peaceful streets.
This was a lovely way to experience Kyoto after sunset. Strolling through Hanamikoji Street and hearing about geisha culture from the local guide made the walk much more meaningful. It felt authentic and not like a typical tourist tour.
Yang è stato una guida divertente che ci ha accompagnato per gli angoli più belli della città raccontandoci aneddoti e curiosità! Un ottimo modo per godersi una serata a Kyoto! Consigliatissimo
There were no cherry blossoms nor were there izakaya. Guide took us to visit two temples and she referred to Kyoto geiko as geisha in the Gion district. Then told us to find our own restaurant if we look up their reviews because she can’t refer nor recommend.
