Full description
This is a 2-hour experience from Kyoto, built around Gion and Yasaka Shrine. It is run by Goen Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.
The price covers Guided tour of Gion district, Visit to Yasaka Shrine, Walk along Hanami Koji Street, Visit to Gion Shinbashi and View of Tatsumi Bridge. It does not cover Transportation to and from the meeting point and Meals and drinks, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Matsumoto Kiyoshi Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Goen Japan before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Traveler Reviews
Had a great time. Thanks, Ben! Ben knows a lot about Kyoto and Japanese history, and he explained everything in a fun and easy way. I learned way more than I expected. The tour is still new, so it doesn’t have many reviews yet, but it’s honestly one of the best tours I did in Japan. Highly recommend. Thanks again, Ben!
I have been coming to Japan for 18 years, bringing groups of high school students each time, and Ben was one of the best guides we have ever had. He is absolutely adorable, and he went WAY beyond the call of duty. Except for me, none of the people in our group had ever been to Japan, and he customized this tour for us, limiting it to just our group of 8 people, so we were able to get loads of one on one time to ask questions. For me, I was particularly delighted because I was able to see places I have never seen before, and Ben had his manual with photos and explanations to really help us unde
Perfekt!
