This is a 3-hour experience from Kyoto, built around Kyōto Minami-za, Hanamikoji Street and Maruyama Park. It is run by TripGuru Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

Great tour! Jasmine, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and very friendly. She also offered recommendations of restaurants and bars at the end of the tour. The views were beautiful and the tour was very educational. I highly recommend, just bring water and walking shoes

Matsui was an excellent guide. We got to see one of the most picturesque areas of Kyoto at night, and even spotted a couple of Geisha!

Almost 3 hours of walking tour, visiting the Gion area mainly, we were lucky to see some Geishas. The guide was knowledgable, we heard good history snd stories, answered many questions.There is a local snack included in the price you pay, max 1000 yen per person they say, it was less than that.

We absolute loved our English speaking guide Jasmine. She did the tour at a a really easy to keep up with pace and provided lots of interesting information. The tour was much more in depth the we thought it would be based on the description. A particular highlight was the pagoda and the Gion back streets at night with no crowds. At the end of the tour Jasmine gave a great recommendation for dinner in Kyoto as well as for our next night in Osaka. We would 100% recommend her to people we know
