Full description
This is a 4-hour experience in Kyoto, built around Gion, Nanzenji Temple and Heian Shrine. It is run by Localized Walking, Bike & Food Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers Comfortable E-bike rental, Expert local guide, Visits to top sights and hidden gems, Insightful commentary on Kyoto’s culture and history and Small group size for personalized experience. It does not cover Insurance, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Kyoto Tourist Lounge Gion. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Localized Walking, Bike & Food Tours before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

very knowledgeable guide Jay guided us through the streets of Kyoto. excellent bikes and a great itinerary. we felt safe and well informed at all times. great work!
Our guide Yuki was outstanding! There were 5 of us in our group + 3 others, and every last one of us could hear the LOVE and feel the PRIDE Yuki has for his city. We started in the Gion district where Yuki made sure to point out not just the sights, but the smells and sounds of the area. We went thru and past several temples and shrines and wrapped up the tour with a walk thru the Emperial Palace and gardens. Riding along all kinds of narrow hidden roads, along the river and up into the hills, we even got to see the aqueduct that feeds Kyoto from Lake Biwa in Otsu. This tour was worth every pe
Jay was amazing! Very knowledgeable and loads of fun too. We visited places I hadn’t yet seen and were easy to do so n an e-bike.
The tour was great, even with periodic downpours of rain! Our tour guide Jay was very affable and knowledgeable. We saw interesting temples and went through some beautiful areas. The e- bikes were really fun. Highly recommend!
Such a good experience! Honestly best way to see and get to know Kyoto. Our guide was funny and lovely and very knowledgeable! Highly recommended
Ben was an excellent tour guide. He was filled with lots of information but also knew how to captivate the crowd. He answered many questions and told us of the places to visit that were worth our time.
What a fantastic way to see Kyoto, so much covered in 4 hours. Ben was brilliant, very knowledgeable about the history and culture, and loved the fun facts he threw in along the way! This was certainly a highlight of our trip!
Ben was outstanding. He took us to some really cool spots that we never would have seen otherwise. He shared a ton of fun information along the way. This was definitely a highlight of the trip.
Awesome tour. Unluckily weather wasnt so nice, but the route was incredible. Guide has very good knowledge of city and history, she was indeed a professional. Would recommend to everybody who is visiting Kyoto.
This is the best tour I’ve been on in Japan and one of the best ANYWHERE I have visited. Jay is one of the best tour guides I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, so charismatic, humble, and passionate about the job. Insanely good value tour for four hours would happily pay double! If you only do one tour in Kyoto make sure it’s with Jay on this biking tour!
we had a great bicycle tour with Jay! he is a very passionate guide who knows a lot about kyoto and it's history. places we visited weren't the typical tourist destinations or too busy. restroom and drink options are plenty. bicycles were of excellent quality. tour isn't to hard on the legs
