This is a 4-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Japan Exploration Tours JIN, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.

great bike trip around kyoto! not too tiring. morning until after lunch! haruka was a good guide that kept a good eye on us and had good personality easily to talk with.. highly recommend this short half day trip to enjoy biking around town..!

It took me three weeks after returning from Japan to Australia to find time to leave a review. My guide Nao and her colleagues were absolutely delightful. The most beautiful spots in Kyoto are always those known only to locals—just like in the NHK documentary Kyoto: Hidden Pleasures of the Locals. Nao led us on a bike ride along the gentle, breezy Kamo River, visiting temples and shrines rarely frequented by tourists. We even recharged with some small desserts along the way. I’m grateful for their hospitality. Despite the light drizzle, I still consider this the most enjoyable part of my week

We loved our tour. As we were the only participants, it felt like a private experience. Ko was a fantastic guide who took us to local spots and showed us a side of Kyoto that’s truly for locals. He was patient and shared stories we would probably never find in a guidebook. We also stopped at a local mochi café (with no menu in English 🙂), where we enjoyed a delicious treat that was included in the tour. We were lucky with the weather, which made the experience even better. It was definitely a tour worth every minute and every cent. Highly recommended!

Nice to see parts of Kyoto we would certainly not have seen without Ko guiding us! Our 10-year old had her own bicycle and no problem following the pace. The tour is to low-traffic areas of Kyoto, so I would say safe! Thank you so much for making our stay fantastic. Great experience!

Benjamin is a really nice guy, he shared some really cool insights about how it is to live in Japan. We definitely saw places we wouldn’t have seen if we hadn’t had such a thoughtful guide. The route was really pleasant to cycle along and the pace felt relaxed. We also got tasty treats included - if you are visiting during the warm season, you should definitely try the shaved ice.

We took our two kids who are 9 and 10 on the tour and our guide Mr. Go was incredibly kind and patient with them. We saw some beautiful sites in Kyoto we had not visited and it was such a joy to bike next to the river on a hot and humid day.
