Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Honey J Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers Kyudo lesson, instructor and All required Kyudo equipment. It does not cover Hotel pickup and drop-off, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

100% RECOMMEND From the start both Yamaguchi-sensei and his student Tsujimoto-san were extremely welcoming and gave us a moment to settle in. I was given a book, that went through both the history and origins of kyudo, and a piece of paper showing the 射法八節 (Shaho Hassetsu) or Eight basic movements of kyudo, using these and with Yamaguchi-sensei giving a visual demonstration I felt alot more confident starting. Once we did start, Yamaguchi-sensei was very patiently teaching us, whilst Tsujimoto-san explained clearly Yamaguchi-sensei's instructions and translated very well (I can't believe she's
Wonderful class learning about Kyudo from a patient & wise Sensei and lovely student who made our experience so fun! Awesome way to spend a calm morning and highly recommend if you're interested in archery.
Absolutely wonderful experience and such an honour to meet a master. One of the highlights of our trip. Would recommend this experience to anyone, it's so much more than just shooting at a target. We left feeling inspired. Thank you.
an amazing experience! Master Yamaguchi was so thorough when it came to teaching technique that on my second shot, I got close to a bullseye! Super fun! I absolutely recommend this experience to everyone!
The instructor was very patient and kind as I learned the intricacies of Kyudo. After completing the activity my accuracy improved, and I gained a greater appreciation for this martial art form. I would highly recommend this activity to anyone looking for a unique experience in Kyoto.
so great that we booked another session before we left
This is a fantastic experience ! One hour practicing Kyudo with a great Sensei and his student who is the translator. The old building is their traditional place of practice. This is not a tourist attraction. They’re so happy to share their knowledge, I felt really care for. True beginners friendly! Small group of four, we got plenty of personal attention and you start shooting arrows right away ! I will never forget the lovely assistant saying just before shooting…Body Action !!! We all had a fantastic time ! Don’t miss this…an authentic cultural experience !
Everyone was knowledgeable and kind making the activity very inspiring!
It was very fun practicing, the instructor was super patient even with my 9 year old. It was a small group which was amazing and we had plenty of time to practice. It was also very informative, we learned a lot. Thank you!
Fantastic experience - both guide and teacher were very patient and explained each step thoroughly
Wonderful experience. The instructor guided us with a lot of patience through the process. Also explained the background and history.
The master and his student were both very enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgable. This is a MUST if you’re in Kyoto!
