This is a 50-minute experience in Kyoto. It is run by HidB LLC, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

Great experience - really enjoyed playing the instruments and learning about them through the interactive quiz. Small group (3) - I think with 4-5 people would be the max as we all got to play at the same time and learn different styles. The room is pretty small. Location is really convenient, close to the Shrine, Shopping, & eating (before and after!)

Very funny activity, a great way to discover the musical tradition of Japan! Instructors are very prepared and kind, at the end of the activity you will be able to play a short drum rhythm. Recommended!

What a great experience! We did the Taiko drumming workshop as a family of four (with older teens) and we all absolutely loved it. The instruction was clear and easy to follow, and the instructors also gave a fabulous short taiko performance. They made us feel as if we had really achieved something by the end of the session, as well as explaining some of the history and culture associated with taiko. Highly recommended!
