Full description
This is a 2-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Kendo Experience, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers Instruction, Uniform rental, Equipment rental, Shoe rental and Gear rental. It does not cover Replica swords, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

My whole family (hubby and mid 20s adult children) had an amazing experience. Everyone said it has been the highlight of the trip so far!! The studio is accommodating, friendly, and helpful. The experience is timed well - we never felt rushed and we never felt like it was dragging. Worth every penny paid!
I had an amazing time. The instructor was funny, informative and knowledgeable. I learned a lot and it was such a great experience
amazing experience. the owners of the kendo experience were great fun and really knowledgeable. it was great fun learning about samurai and kendo and having a chance to practice in the equipment. would highly recommend this if you have a couple of hours to kill

Spectacular teachers, really fun time and very educational
Amazing experience, highly recommended for people who want to experience Kendo firsthand.
Machi and Kahi were excellent presenters of Kendo and some Samurai history. The sparring was a fun taste of the sports as well
It was great experience both for us and for our teenage kids, we learned a lot about samurai and Japanese cultur, our instructor Taka was great and very funny Highly recommended
Great fun for the family. All learned a lot and enjoyed experiencing with the uniform, armour and training swords. Highly recommended, also with teenagers
Kendo is an art form. Me and my two daughters made the trek from Osaka to attend the class. One daughter was given an unforgettable nickname “Wasabi” by the sensei/teacher. We enjoyed the quiet suburban setting where the class is held. The class is serious, informative, and entertaining. You also learn that Kendo is an art practiced over lifetimes. Getting in the gear, learning technique. Sparring for 5 minutes trying desperately not to get confused, or overwhelmed was very enjoyable. Doing it with my daughters was an incredible memory. We all loved it!! A tip while in the class…listen with bo
Taka was phenomenal! He was very knowledgeable about his craft and skills as a Kendo/Kenshi. Super respectful and have an infectious smile. I would recommend!
We had an amazing time! Definitely recommend coming while you’re in Kyoto
