Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Traveling Tokyo, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.
The price covers Kintsugi workshop, All materials and tools required for the Kintsugi experience, One plate included and instructor. It does not cover Premium plate upgrades and Tips, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

The workshop was great! We practised kintsugi technique, learned about kintsugi and had great time interacting with the other participants. The workshop price includes one small item, we chose a small bowl that cost about ¥1,200. Our instructor Mabia was amazing! Thank you so much!
We had a great experience! The workshop was fun, well set-up and in a good location easy to get to in the city. The staff there spoke not only English, but also French, Spanish and some German. We had 2 teachers for 9 participants so we had quick assistance when we needed. Cati was so helpful and knowledgeable. Her background in art made her very interesting to talk to and perfectly suited for the workshop!
Alice was a great guide. This was such a fun activity to do and we learned a lot about the history of Kintsugi.
Great workshop! Cerise was incredibly helpful and fun teacher!
Rina was very nice and the workshop itself was awesome. Definitely recommend!
The whole experience was really really nice! We had a lot of fun and out teacher Stephanie was do patient with us, so nice and told us so many interesting things.
Stephanie was great, very helpful and told us interesting stories about Kintsugi :)
Super straightforward and beginner friendly! The included plate is a small white one, but there are upgraded ones (with more intricate designs) available for between ¥1000-¥4000. The instructors are very kind & chatty, thank you Leyla!
We absolutely loved this Kintsugi workshop! Rina was a wonderful teacher - very kind, patient, and also a really interesting person to talk to, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. There was a great selection of ceramics to choose from. Some of the most beautiful pieces are available for an additional fee, and we chose those - they were definitely worth it and we absolutely love how our pieces turned out! You can also add kanji characters to your piece, and there are helpful materials provided to guide you through the process, even if you have no previous experience. Overall, i
Yuhi was an amazing workshop host! He was friendly, funny and very knowledgeable. Great English instruction. This is something I’ve always wanted to do, great souvenir. I would highly recommend this workshop.
I loved how Sabbie guided us through the whole process!! It was sooo fun and entertaining! Very cool experience!❤️
A really wonderful workshop, it was a great start to our trip! Our instructor Katie was so lovely, she had a really bubbly personality and was very helpful. A little saucer is included in the price, or you can pay extra for a bigger plate/bowl/cup with a design. Great value for money, I highly recommend it.
