This is a 2-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Kyoto Kimono Rental Yumeyakata, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

wow what an amazing experience, from getting make up on which eas totally relaxing ti then getting dressed in kimono which weigh an absolute tonne. fabulous photographer too who made you totally at ease. would highly recommend this experience x

The metamorphosis was a great experience itself: make up, kimono choice and dressing up in full Maiko gear. All in friendly atmosphere. And then the photoshoot with kind and professional photographer. I received ready photos earlier than expected and the result was phenomenal. What's important is that the photo session takes place in a professional studio (AC) and not anywhere outside, which is a bonus given temperature/humidity outside (2nd half of April) and a full make-up/heavy kimono on. I would deffinitely repeat the experience and I highly recommend.

A very great experience! I did a Maiko photo shoot here. First I was made up, dressed in a kimono and then professionally photographed. The photos arrived even faster than expected! The team is very friendly and I felt very comfortable. Definitely worth it! A clear recommendation!

Both my sister and I enjoyed our Maiko makeover and photo shoot experiences. They are all so nice and friendly at the studio, and treated us well. The kimonos are so beautiful. We couldn’t believe how many steps were needed to put on a kimono !! Amazing experience !!
