Full description
This is a 2-hour experience from Kyoto, built around Local bar. It is run by kfk, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers Guided by an English speaking sake sommelier and Sake and snacks. It does not cover Transportation to/from attractions and Hotel pickup and drop-off, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
18 Naginatabokochō, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, 600-8008, Japan. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with kfk before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

We had an absolute blast with Kenji and we learned so much! The sake bar was delightful and we tasted 8 different sakes. We now have a greater appreciation for sake and feel like we can make good choices when ordering in a restaurant. Super chill experience, just hanging out with new friend. Don’t hesitate, book this experience!
We LOVED spending time with Kenji from Kyoto! It was like grabbing a drink with a friend, except that friend is super knowledgeable and can order things specifically designed for your tastes. We learned so much about the process of making sake and got to try many different types and develop our palates. Highly recommend!
Our sake tour with Kenji was great. He’s worked in the sake industry for years and has a wealth of knowledge in this area. We met at the designated place then walked about ten minutes to the amazing sake shop that has so many sakes to choose from. It was only my husband and myself, so basically a private experience. Kenji explained the ingredients, process and different types of sake or Nihon Shu. We had six pours of different types of sake. Some were unpasteurized (like my personal favorite). He explained where each sake originated from. Honestly a very interesting and informative tour with d
Kenji was very attentive! With deep knowledge of Nihonshu, he explains everything easily. I recommend him 100%.
Kenjii was amazing! Professional, knowledgeable, kind and attentive. Speaks very good English and tailored our tasting experience to our individual preferences. Highly recommend! Thanks so much again Kenjii!
Kenji was great, he taught us so much about sake, and introduced us to different types we would never have found on our own!
Great sake tasting experience! Kenji was extremely knowledgeable and we learned so much from him while sampling some delicious varieties. Kenji also graciously helped us to understand some Japanese language basics and indulged us as we asked him tons of questions about sake, Japanese culture, and local cuisine. Highly recommend booking with Kenji!
Kenji is a reliable guide and will be easy to relate to, he explained everything about sake with patience and meticulousness. It was very interesting to understand the nature of sake and its production, with historical references too. The tastings that he will choose based on your tastes will surprise you from the first to the last glass.
If you are looking for a very informative and interesting tour - book Kenji without hesitation! Kenji brought us to a very central place and chose different kinds of sake based on our own preferences, allowing us to discover new tastes while he was sharing some facts on sake history, making and breweries.
Very good explanations! good selection!
Excellent experience with a a very friendly knowledgeable host.
