Full description
This is a 3-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Arashiyama Culture Experience, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Arashiyama, on Kyoto's western edge, is the bamboo grove, the Togetsukyo bridge over the Katsura river, the gardens of Tenryu-ji and the monkey park on the hill above. The bamboo path is about 500 metres and is photographed empty in every guidebook because those photographs are taken before 7:30; by mid-morning it is a procession. Rickshaw runs, the Sagano scenic railway along the gorge, and boat rides down the Hozu rapids all start here. Autumn colour peaks in the second half of November and cherry blossom around the first week of April.

It does not cover Transportation to/from attractions and Personal expenses, so budget for those separately. Our tour with Masa was a real highlight of our stay in Kyoto. Arashiyama was beautiful and we loved the monkeys, the temple and the bamboo grove. Masa was delightful company, and very knowledgeable.

Masa, the tour guide, made the visit to the monkey park, bamboo forest and tour around the area a whole lot of fun, and educational. We are do glad that we booked him rather than attempting this alone. monkey park was amazing and you can feed them for 100 yen, which the tour guide helps with, monkeys are walking around right by you, climbing through hut and trees! the walk up Is pretty high and offers some nice views around the surrounding area. bamboo forest was also impressive, as was the shrines. along the way the tour guide takes photos for you, which really adds to the experience. What a great experience, this place has stunning views, the temple and gardens are beautiful, and seeing/feeding the monkeys was amazing. Our guide masa was great he is full of history would highly recommended
We had a wonderful time with Masa today – thanks again! The meeting point was easy to locate, and we enjoyed the walk uphill to see the monkeys, complete with fun quizzes about them along the way :-). It was fascinating to watch and interact with the monkeys, who were surprisingly gentle. We fed them coconut and apple pieces (make sure to bring some 100 yen coins for the food bags!). Our guide Masa was a lovely gentleman. Very informative about the history of the area. Ours was a personal tour so just my husband and I which was great. Masa would take photos of us at all the good spots. Got to feed the monkeys which was pretty cool. The monkeys roam free in the area so can come close to you. The view of Kyoto is spectacular from the top. If you aren’t fit this may not be the right trip for you. It’s a long climb to the top but worth it.
