This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by KYOTO SHIBORI MUSEUM, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.

Wonderful experience. Very knowledgeable staff and clearly interested in teaching you about the history & technique. Very fun for my 18 yr old son & I. Our scarfs turned out beautiful. And I bought a few souvenirs for friends. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed learning about Shibori techniques and the history of this art. Loved making a dyed piece of art. This took a short amount of time and if you have ever done tie-dye, its very similar. Nice relaxing activity also suitable for teenagers or older children. A little expensive but the money is going to fund the museum and its wonderful staff and family, and their continued work maintaining the art of Shibori.

A friend and I had been traveling in Japan for 21 days and we had taken some other dyeing classes but we really enjoyed the friendliness and organization of this class and museum!

Best thing to do if you want to escape the heat. Perfect if you like textiles and crafts. So many things to look at the museum. So good staff, I went alone and they helped me with taking photos. 5 of 5 stars!

Wonderful experience and to have a really great souvenir after to show my family was really nice. It was so easy to do as the instructions were very clear, the museum was great to walk around to see so many examples. Would recommend to anyone.

The Shibori was taught by the family who have been craftsmen for many generations. It was a fun and very informative experience. We were amazed at their more advanced techniques. The workshop took only an hour but the visit to the museum’s display of their craft took at least another hour. The owners were wonderful and helpful. We recommend for sure!!

The scarves we made were so beautiful! And it was not too difficult to make. The staff was very helpful and enthusiastic. Seeing the museum was interesting while the scarves were drying. Definitely recommend this activity for people interested in fabric art and having a nice souvenir to bring home.
