This is a 2-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by 京都相撲部屋, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

Wow, the people are so welcoming. The food was endless as the drinks. Everything was easy to understand. The sumo was hilarious. The program was well mapped out and explains most everything. The sumo wrestlers are a perfect match for a fun and interactive show. Highly recommend !
This is got to be one of the best shows I have seen in a long time I have never laughed so much. Although there is a serious side to sumo wrestling the way that this was presented by this group was incredible. I would strongly recommend everybody who comes to Kyoto to see this show. It is worth every penny and every moment of your time they are excellent craftsman.
We went tonight and honestly had such a good time. The host talked us through sumo as a sport, and we learned some genuinely interesting facts along the way. We watched geisha dancers, then a sumo entertainment show. It wasn't a real tournament, but they still walked us through the conventions of the sport, and the wrestlers were brilliant, really entertaining and engaged with the crowd. Ordering was so easy too. What a night!! This was so much fun from the beginning to the end ! Geisha dance at the beginning was pretty and sumos were impressive and funny. The food and drinks were good and we appreciated the unlimited re-order. I really recommend the show!
