This is a 1.5-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by Japan Wonder Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.

I loved it so much! They gave us a little makeover and made the whole thing so special. You can also keeep the kimono for a little while after so you can go off and take your own pictures. 10/10!

It was an incredible experience and one we will never forget. The tea ceremony was incredibly insightful and we both found it incredibly relaxing. We loved being able to dress in traditional clothing and made the occasion even more special

Was an amazing experience from start to finish. Attention to detail on being dressed in a kimono of your choice through to learning about cleansing & blessing the tea was so interesting. Professional photos taken along with being able to go outside dressed if you wanted to return 6pm latest. Would totally recommend this experience ! Arigato
