Full description
This is a 45-minute experience in Kyoto. It is run by B.B.Advisors Inc. AN KYOTO, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. They are working professionals on their way to engagements, not performers for the street, and Kyoto has banned photography in the private lanes; an evening walk with a guide who explains the ochaya system is the respectful way to see it. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. Kimono rental for a day, with dressing and hair, is an established business around the district and is welcomed rather than resented.
The price covers Tea ceremony with Maiko, 2 dried-type Japanese sweets and matcha, Photo opportunity and Senjafuda gift. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
B.B.Advisors Inc. AN KYOTO sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with B.B.Advisors Inc. AN KYOTO before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Being able to speak to and ask questions of a Maiko is a real treat and I so appreciated this rare opportunity. Our Maiko was stunning and decided as a young school girl this is what she wanted. She was pleasant, soft spoken, demure and very self assured and confident too. The guide was excellent at interpretation and flow. We did the short version without the game and dance it was perfect! The only change I would make is that the sweets with the tea are really more like two sugar cubes not actually sweets or dessert- which is customary so I appreciate that. Just people need to be aware when b
We had a wonderful Tea Ceremony with a lovely Maiko. She graciously poured our sake and demonstrated the proper way of making and drinking the delicious Matcha tea. She responded thoughtfully to our questions and was very informative of the life of a Maiko and becoming Geiko. We were so happy to have booked this experience. Also, the staff was organized as the event ran smoothly. I recommend this experience 100%.
The experience was incredible. The highlight of our Japan trip. Maiko was impeccable in her presentation and really showed the beauty and culture of geisha. I felt privileged to be there.
Very beatiful and Very historic . I love this ceremony. Guide is very friendly . Nice show :))
The tea ceremony was led by Maiko, who is on her journey to become Geisha. During tea ceremony, we prepared matcha tea and drank it. It was followed by Q&A session, where we had the chance to ask more about Maiko’s life - e.g. why she decided to become Geisha, how much time it takes to dress up, if she sees her family often etc. In the end we had possibility to take a photo with Maiko. One thing to note is that Maiko did not speak English, so it was translated by the host. As Geisha’s life is quite different, then we considered the Q&A session the most interesting. The event was well organised
Really enjoyed this activity. Beautiful and elegant maiko. Fun to have a go at making your own cup of green matcha tea.
Proximity to Maiko without stalking. Learning more about her lifestyle.
The ceremony was unique and really good. Maiko did an excellent demonstration leading the tea ceremony. She answered many questions and took photos with us. The host was very friendly and helpful explaining how the ceremony would be conducted and translating into English. I would highly recommend this event.
the whole ceremony was great no need for improvement
We enjoyed the novelty of meeting a Gaiko and hearing about her life experiences. The room was a good size and the activities easy for everyone to enjoy.
Learning to make macha tea was made easy by our Maiko Masaya San. she was very beautiful and intriguing. She spoke with confidence answering all our questions in Japanese. Luckily we had an interpreter there who made sure we understood everything. Thank you Masaya. I highly recommend this experience.
We LOVED it! This will be one of my top highlights in Japan. Sake, tea ceremony, Q&A, photos, dance performance and a game - how many people can say they played a (drinking!) game with a maiko/geisha? She's was so elegant and fun. And one of only 50 maiko now - it's, sadly, a dying art. Make sure you do the package with
