Full description
This is a 1-hour experience in Kyoto. It is run by GuideMe Japan, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Kyoto was Japan's capital for over a thousand years until 1868 and has 17 UNESCO-listed sites among some 2,000 temples and shrines. The big three are Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, covered in gold leaf and best in morning light; Kiyomizu-dera, the wooden stage on the eastern hills with the Higashiyama lanes of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka below it; and Fushimi Inari's gates. Nijo Castle has the nightingale floors that squeak against intruders, and Ryoan-ji the rock garden. Temples open around 8:00 or 9:00 and close at 17:00, and the city bus is slow; a day with a driver or a guide who orders the stops against the crowds is the difference between four sights and seven.
The price covers Various types of mochi, Young English-speaking instructor and Drinks to go with your mochi. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

The session was really enjoyable! Ko and Itsuki were wonderful guides friendly, welcoming, and very engaging. I had the chance to pound and make our own mochi, which was such a fun hands-on experience. And of course, tasting the fresh mochi at the end was delicious! A lovely and authentic cultural experience in Kyoto that I definitely recommend. π‘π―π΅
It was really entertaining for the whole family, we discovered a world of mochi far more wide then the ice cream type we knew before. Trying to make them was also fun ! Thank you to Momoka for being so knowledge and friendly.
It was a lovely, authentic experience. the guide was enthusiastic and friendly, the artist very friendly and capable. I learned so much about the techniques and process. This workshop deserves to be on the list of any manga, anime or art lover who comes to Kyoto. You won't regret it!
Ko was our instructor and he spoke perfect English. He explained the process and history of mochi to us and then we made our own and tasted them. He was so accommodating around my 6 month old baby and took the best family photos of us!
This was such a fun and interactive activity. Our guides were super nice which made the experience even better. Definitely recommend!
We had a lot of fun, our guide Sara, speaks perfect English and was fun and attentive
We had a fantastic time making mochi! Our guides Mizuki, Sara and Itsuki were so lovely and engaging and made everyone feel so welcome and we all joined in chanting the mochi rhythm. Great fun for our kids and even got to take home what we made after eating the fresh mochi.
We had so much fun! Our hosts were so sweet and helpful! I loved mochi before, but have a whole new level of appreciation for them ! Especially for new flavour combinations! We highly recommend this activity!
Very fun activity with great guides Airi and Sara!
My 14 year old daughter and I had a lot of fun! The instructors were super nice and communicative. They had great stories and we were able to taste a variety of different mochi. We would highly recommend it especially for families.
We had a fun experience making and tasting mochi last week - my two boys ages 14 and 11, my husband and I - and the best part was the tasting (for me)! The guides were helpful when I got lost on the way there (the map is not quite right), and informative about the history of mochi.
It was a wonderful experience. The instructors were great. It was easy to communicate as everyone spoke fluent English. The activity was fun and we had a great time shaping and eating our mochi.
