Gion is Kyoto's historic entertainment district, the streets of wooden machiya houses around Hanamikoji where the geiko and maiko of the Gion Kobu district still work. Tea ceremony sessions in Gion teach the basic form of matcha preparation in an hour. the tour was so fun! not only did we get to do traditional weaving, we also got a tour of the temple and a trip to a traditional fabric store. our tour guide, kanako San, was so kind and friendly. she was very natural and warm in how she interacted with us. hirano sensei, the master weaver we learned from, was also very warm, humorous, and kind. he was also knowledgeable and patient. I only wish I could be his apprentice! as a fiber arts enthusiast, this package was a must and is likely my favorite thing I've done my whole trip! thank you, kanako San and hirano sensei, for the wisdom, kindness

Amazing! Akino is super knowledgeable, friendly and tries her best to answer questions. It was a surreal experience meeting a master craftsman and trying out his craft. This tour was the highlight of our trip and highly, highly recommend everyone to experience it

Yayoi-san was a great guide and very informative. The weaving was such a great experience and definitely something we want to look into more as a personal hobby. Even though it was a little cold and rainy, it added some extra charm to the scenery at the shrine. If you're into handicrafts or just want a memorable and unique experience, we definitely recommend this tour.
