This is a 2-hour experience from Osaka, built around Dotonbori, Hozenji Yokocho and Kuromon Ichiba Market. It is run by Japan Guide Stars, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Osaka is Japan's kitchen: the city that invented takoyaki, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, and Dotonbori's canal of neon signs is where it eats them. Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

We went as a family of five: two adults and three children( 8, 11 and 17 yo). If you choose a mid-day tour it can get hot, I knew that when I booked the 4pm tour, but wanted to experience the market. By the time we got there most of the stalls were closing down, so if you want to experience the market book the morning time. We really enjoyed our tour and our guides. I’m glad we went.

The tour was so much fun. Our guide Natsumi is such a bright and fun person and she was very knowledgeable about the area, culture and had many wonderful recommendations for food and fun activities throughout the tour. We didn’t have a lot of time in Osaka and this was a fantastic way to see some highlights and get a brief history.
