Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

If you’re looking to explore Osaka, but might feel intimidated about hitting all the popular spots in one day, I suggest you book with this guide. Hugo made our tour easy & was very flexible when it came to planning all the sites we wanted to see. We began with a stop at Osaka Castle, where Hugo explained the history and some important landmarks in the area. Hugo seemed very knowledgeable and made it an educational experience. As requested, Hugo showed us the less touristy parts of Osaka. He provided detailed explanations of all the places we visited, also placing them in their historical context. We regretted booking only three hours. I would like to point out that Hugo never once checked the time—quite the opposite. I highly recommend him.

Hugo was excellent and we would recommend. He took our list of spots we wanted to visit and made sure we ticked them all off, with good amounts of time at each. He also showed us things we wouldn't have known about without him. He helped us pick some great food from the market and took pictures of us at each spot which was lovely to look back on. He was very easy to get on with too which made us feel comfortable immediately. Thanks Hugo!

Hugo met us in our hotel and we were off on a great experience. We did a of of walking and got some amazing tips and recommendations along the way. We opted for the 4 hour tour and the time seemed to pass instantly. Lots of walking. Great familiarization with the Subway and surrounding areas making us much more aware of our surroundings and what we have available to us during our next week here. Great experience all around; highly recommended.
