Osaka is Japan's kitchen: the city that invented takoyaki, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, and Dotonbori's canal of neon signs is where it eats them. Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

The tour was just OK. Instructions on where to meet the guide could’ve been much clearer. We went to the entrance of the museum, but it turns out there were two museum entrances because one museum is for the Hanshin Tigers and the other for the high school competition. We were there in plenty of time and could not find our guide and had to call. Also, the museum itself was very noisy, and it was almost impossible for the guide to give us all information that we could hear. The guide was very knowledgeable, but again, due to the surroundings, it was difficult to really hear anything and she did
