Full description

This is a 3.5-hour experience in Osaka. It is run by Osaka Food Tours, Inc., an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Osaka is Japan's kitchen: the city that invented takoyaki, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, and Dotonbori's canal of neon signs is where it eats them. Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

The price covers Visits a stall for a small side dish, Dinner after the tour and tour guide. It does not cover Drinks and Hotel pickup, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Osaka Food Tours, Inc. sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Osaka Food Tours, Inc. before treating your booking as final. Awesome tour and conversations! Taka shares a great deal of knowledge about the neighborhoods around, and Japanese culture and politics. I left feeling like I know a bunch more of Japan and their current struggles and strengths, this is great to educate ourselves as tourists too, anywhere we go. Appreciate Taka opening up. おおきに!

This backstreet tour was fantastic! Our guide, Rudy, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many fascinating backstories about the city. We discovered areas that most tourists wouldn’t normally see, and it was such a nice change to get away from the typical touristy spots. The Red Light District was especially fascinating and gave us a unique perspective about that industry. To top it all off, we ended the tour with a great dinner at a local establishment. The food was really tasty and was the perfect way to finish the experience. I highly recommend this tour if you’re looking to do someth

Knox was excellent as a guide. Honest and funny and also empathetic on some of the challenging issues. Really enjoyed it. Also the food was very good and lots more of it than we had expected for the price!

Great tour which gave us a completely different view on Japan's culture. Fantastic guide, super interesting, we also had dinner in a small restaurant with karaoke and the group ended up all singing together :-) Super fun evening!

Knox was a great guide! Very informative and respectful of the areas we visited. Definitely saw and heard about the side of not only Osaka but Japanese culture I wouldn’t have got on any other tour.

The whole tour was great, our guide was super interesting layed back person. It is a shame that some of the buildings shown are being torn down, but that is life.

This tour is awesome! Definitely suited for an older audience but one of the best tours I did on my visit to Japan. My husband and I appreciated all the information Brian shared with us, and we had such a fun and inclusive group. I would totally recommend this tour!

I’ve been many weeks in Japan and this is by far one of the best tours I’ve been on! Taka is very kind and knowledgeable about Osaka and Japan. He gives time for additional conversation and questions and seemed to have an answer for everything we asked. I’ve been on many walking tours but this tour managed to teach me many new things about the cultural of Osaka and Japan. At the end, everyone in my group gave Taka the same praise, he made the tour feel like we were just a group of old friends hanging out, making jokes, sharing stories, and having a drink. Make sure to have dinner at the end so
