Full description

This is a 10-hour experience from Osaka, built around Hikone Castle, Nagahama Beach and Ferry. It is run by YMI Experience co. Ltd, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of Inari, the deity of rice and business, and its thousand-plus vermilion torii gates, each donated by a company or family, run in tunnels up the 233-metre Mount Inari behind the main hall. The full loop to the summit is about four kilometres and two hours; most visitors turn back at the Yotsutsuji viewpoint halfway. It is open 24 hours and free, which makes it the one big Kyoto sight you can do at dawn or after dark, when the gates are empty and lit. By nine in the morning the lower tunnels are a slow queue. The fox statues carry keys to the rice granary in their mouths.

The price covers Private transportation from Osaka, Visit to Hikone Castle, Boat ride to Chikubushima and Visit to Shirahige Shrine. It does not cover Meals and Personal expenses, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Osaka. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with YMI Experience co. Ltd before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Shoes off at every hall, quiet voices, and no photographs inside the halls unless a sign allows it. At a shrine, rinse hands and mouth at the basin, then bow twice, clap twice and bow once; at a temple, hands together without clapping. Dress is relaxed, but shoulders and knees covered is the courteous choice.
We confirm your booking with the operator before we treat it as final, and we need at least one day's notice. Once it is confirmed you get the meeting point, the time and a contact number for the day. If the operator cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

April for cherry blossom around Osaka Castle, or November for peak autumn foliage and the year's lowest rainfall. Both are the most crowded and most expensive months, so book hotels 3+ months ahead. See our best time to visit Osaka guide.
Get an ICOCA IC card (works interchangeably with Suica/Pasmo) and tap on/off the subway and buses. The Osaka Amazing Pass bundles transit with free entry to Osaka Castle and dozens of attractions if you're sightseeing hard for a day. See getting around Osaka.
Three days covers the essentials: a day for Osaka Castle and the city center, a day for Dotonbori and Shinsekai, and a day for a Nara or Kyoto side trip. Our 3-day Osaka itinerary has the full route.
Yes — Nara is about 30-45 minutes by Kintetsu train for the deer park and Todai-ji, and Kyoto is roughly 29 minutes by JR Special Rapid. Both are easy half-day or full-day trips. See our Osaka to Nara guide and Osaka to Kyoto guide.
Takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancake) are Osaka's signature street foods, best sampled around Dotonbori and Kuromon Market. See our Osaka food guide.
Yes — it's the city's neon-lit entertainment and food district, and while it's undeniably touristy, the energy, canal-side glow, and street food density make it genuinely worth an evening. See the Dotonbori guide.
Shinsekai is Osaka's retro, slightly gritty downtown district built around the Tsutenkaku Tower, known for kushikatsu (fried skewers). It's generally safe for tourists, especially in the daytime and early evening. See the Shinsekai guide.
