Full description

This is a 2.5-hour experience in Osaka. It is run by yuki Japanese cooking class, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Osaka is Japan's kitchen: the city that invented takoyaki, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, and Dotonbori's canal of neon signs is where it eats them. Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

The price covers Cooking Class: Hands-on lesson on making tempura and miso, Ingredients and Equipment: Fresh ingredients and all, Instructor: The class is taught by an experienced, Recipe Handouts: Detailed recipes are provided so you can and Meal Tasting: Enjoy the dishes you prepare during the class. Yuki had done a lot of preparation for the class. She welcomed us into her home and shared many stories and tips to making miso and tempura from the freshest ingredients.

Yuki was really outstanding; she picked us up at the meeting point and drove us home where we were welcomed and started the course. She explained in detail the preparation to be done and we completed it together. Of course, at the end we enjoyed everything we prepared. I recommend this activity to everyone as Yuki is really amazing

It was very interesting to enter an actual Japanese kitchen and learn the authentic way tempura and miso soup are prepared. Yuki was a great host, she walked us through the procedures and let us try on our own. At the end of the experience, we ate the fabulous dishes we prepared! I really suggest this cooking course to people who are curious about Japanese food and culture.

The instructor was very friendly and gave us lots of information about ingredients and how to prepare the dishes. She made it seem so simple that I am eager to do at home. It was only 6 people so it was personalized and we enjoyed what we cooked!! I recommend this activity highly.

Yes — Nara is about 30-45 minutes by Kintetsu train for the deer park and Todai-ji, and Kyoto is roughly 29 minutes by JR Special Rapid. Both are easy half-day or full-day trips. See our Osaka to Nara guide and Osaka to Kyoto guide.
