Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Osaka Castle Walking Tour with our guide Miri who was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. She spoke very good English and answered all of the questions we had which added to the experience. We specifically chose the 1 hour tour which went at a good pace as there were only 4 of us on the tour so it wasn’t rushed while covering lots of ground. The castle was SPECTACULAR as were the gardens and learning about the history was fascinating. Miri was very diligent at picking the best vantage points to take photos which was great so we have lasting memories. Highly reco
