Dotonbori is where tourists eat; Tenma and Kyobashi are where Osaka eats. This three-hour small-group evening tour, capped at just six guests, skips the famous neon strip entirely and heads instead to the two districts where the city's office workers, students, and old-timers pack into standing bars and counter joints every night. Over the course of the evening you graze through more than fifteen curated dishes across a handful of local restaurants, from the kind of izakaya plates that never appear on English menus to the drinks that go with them - beer, cocktails, spirits, and tea all make an appearance along the route. The eating is only half of it. Your guide walks you through Tenma's dense lattice of lantern-lit alleys near the long Tenjinbashisuji arcade, telling the local stories that explain why Osakans are Japan's most food-obsessed people, before hopping the metro one stop to Kyobashi, a rowdier, more retro nightlife pocket that almost no foreign visitors ever reach. I wanted to participate in the group dinner organisation with Ferdinand, but there was no one who attended the event except me. Actually, I was a little nervous at first, I couldn't think of how the conversation would be shaped, but Ferdinand gave me a great tour with his incredible communication skills and knowledge. He had set really good places and the food choices were very different, just as I wanted. Ferdinand is an excellent person, I definitely recommend spending time together. Had food tour around Temma & Kiyobashi area with Tommy, a really nice tour guide, took us to local hidden spots that we wouldn’t have found by ourselves. Tried 13+ local favorites, along with rounds of drink! Totally recommended if you visit Osaka :)
