There is sightseeing, and then there is buzzing through central Osaka at street level in a custom go-kart while pedestrians wave and phone cameras swing your way. This is the original street kart experience: after a safety briefing and gear-up at the garage, you follow your guide out onto Osaka's public roads in convoy, weaving through the inner city on a roughly one-hour driving route that takes in the main attractions of central Osaka - the wacky oversized signage, glowing facades, and canal-side energy that make the city's streetscape unlike anywhere else in Japan. Driving a kart at road level completely changes how the city hits you. Buildings tower, scooters buzz alongside, and every crossing becomes a small event as people stop to photograph the convoy. Your guide leads the group the entire way, sets a manageable pace, and keeps the route within the fun-but-safe lane of Osaka's inner-city streets, so you can focus on steering and grinning rather than navigating. Costumes are part of the culture of these tours, and dressing up turns the drive into a rolling photo opportunity. One important requirement: this is real driving on real roads, so you must have a valid license to drive in Japan - an International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention) for most visitors - and you will need to present it at check-in. This Street Kart Experience was really fun, and felt like a unique thing to do in Osaka. I did this with my 70 year old dad—we really enjoyed it. We had the most fun go karting in Osaka. We were looking forward to this activity our whole trip and it definitely did not disappoint! I would highly recommend this experience.
I booked this in advance of our trip, and briefly saw some going round Tokyo when we were there. I was beginning to have my doubts, and also read that a lot of locals don't like it but I have to say this was a really good experience, and the reception on the streets was really good. In a few areas of Osaka we were able to go flat to the floor, and otherwise it was a good way of seeing and getting to know the city - especially with the neon lit up for the evening session. Our guide Sharon was very good and took lots of photos which were sent to our phones after the event. I was positioned at the back to begin with and as the tour went on we progressed to the front so that everyone had a good opportunity for photos. For a while was concerned about a small van that was following us and that he may want to get past, but he was stuck there and following our every turn. It took a while for me to realise he was there to ensure the safety of the group! :D Spend the money and do it!
Had a great time although I was a little nervous before we went out on the roads. Arthur was great at instructing and was easy to follow. there were 4 of us in our group which made it quite nice with the time in front split between us. Didn’t imagine we’d go 60kph on the carriage way which was an adrenaline boost! Read reviews on karts in Osaka against Tokyo and it didn’t disappoint so pleased we got to do it!!
