Full description

This is a 5-hour experience from Osaka, built around Hidden gem. It is run by DeepExperience, Inc., an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Osaka is Japan's kitchen: the city that invented takoyaki, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, and Dotonbori's canal of neon signs is where it eats them. Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

The price covers Samurai training experience, Instruction by a sword master and guide. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

DeepExperience, Inc. sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with DeepExperience, Inc. before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

I enjoyed this and was glad that I booked this. The guide was very helpful in translating and my prior experience helped me learn it quickly. I even picked up a tip on how to make the whistle sound which I am going to apply to golf swing

This is the real deal, not a touristy dress up for photos etc. I booked a 4 hour experience. It was a one to one lesson learning a number of foundation sword skills. As someone who has studied martial arts for over 40 years the instruction was excellent and specific to my needs. For those who want a genuine Samurai sword training experience I can 100% recommend this. The guide and translator was also brilliant, sharing history, culture and showing me around the temple.

This was an unforgettable swordsmanship experience. I also chose the extended session. Before arriving at the temple, my guide Juraj asked what I hoped to gain while sharing history along the way. When I met Master Tatsuya Watanabe, he also asked about my interests before we began. The experience was tailored perfectly to my preferences. It was a privilege to learn from someone preserving authentic samurai traditions. He gave great demonstrations explaining techniques and showed me genuine antique katanas hundreds of years old. At the end I received a goshuin as a keepsake. I showed him my gos

It was an excellent experience. The sword master was extremely dedicated to both the physical and mental aspects of the samurai. Our guide did an outstanding job of translating all of our questions. Our guide went above and beyond to make this a memorable experience.

It was a great and very authentic experience. Watanabe San is very passionate about his craft and explains it very well in the short amount of time we have. It’s a cultural experience as much as it’s about the swordsmanship. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for things off the beaten path and wants to learn more about Japan, its culture and history!

We loved this!! This was an absolutely amazing experience and a must do! My son and I both said this was the best thing we have done in Japan:). We cannot thank both Benoit and Watanabe enough for everything and we highly suggest this instruction as we could not have been happier with this experience:).

A wonderful and remarkable experience. Our guide and translator Ben, was able to meet us at the station, provide insight and fascinating history tidbits of the area where we were. After arriving at the temple, we met Watanabe-San, the sword master who was overseeing our special tour and training. Immediately gave stunning insight to the way Watanabe-San lived, how he trained, fights, how he practices his swordsmanship and the spiritual factor in his lifestyle. With Ben translating especially during the training, it made a fun and wild experience, especially since we all had been given differen

This was an amazing experience and insight into Japanese sword tradition. Our guide, Benoit, was great and the perfect interpreter. He also showed us around the temple a bit more after the experience ended which was a nice way to end the day. Watanabe san was amazing to watch and listen to, he had so much knowledge to share and he was really fun to talk to. The private experience is definitely worth the money because Watanabe san is able to get to know you specifically and the experience can be personalised. The temple grounds are also so peaceful and beautiful, they made the perfect setting f

This was a standout activity in our Japan trip. For anyone who likes combat, history, samurai, &/or getting an authentic experience with Japanese culture - this is absolutely worth every dollar. it was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The Translator, Yoshi, met us at the station and guided us to the shrine. on our way there he explained the history of the area, answered any questions and was just all-around a pleasure to be with. once arriving we rang the bell which set the tone. We met Watanabe, the master samurai who was a very warm presence. He only speaks Japanese but warm dem
