Full description
This is a 10-day experience in Osaka. It is run by OlaChill Travel & Technology, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Tokyo is the largest city on earth by metropolitan population and it is best seen as a set of neighbourhoods on the Yamanote loop line rather than one place. Asakusa has Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and Nakamise's shopping lane; Shibuya has the scramble crossing and Shinjuku the bars of Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho; Harajuku is Takeshita Street and Meiji Shrine's forest; Akihabara is electronics and anime; Ginza is department stores and sushi counters. Everything runs on time and the last trains are around midnight. Cash still matters in small restaurants, an IC card covers every train and bus, and tipping is not done anywhere.
The price covers Private Toyota Alphard with a licensed English-speaking, Airport pick-up and drop-off, All private vehicle transportation between Tokyo, Hakone, Shinkansen tickets on the Tokyo and Lake Ashi sightseeing cruise in Hakone. It does not cover Admission tickets to temples and Meals and drinks unless stated in itinerary, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Your driver meets you at Narita or Haneda arrivals and takes you straight to your Tokyo hotel. Nothing is scheduled for the rest of the day. If you land earl. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with OlaChill Travel & Technology before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.
Tour Itinerary
The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.
Airport pickup and hotel check-in
Your driver meets you at Narita or Haneda arrivals and takes you straight to your Tokyo hotel. Nothing is scheduled for the rest of the day. If you land early, an evening walk under the first turning trees of your neighbourhood is a gentle way to start the trip.
Ginkgo avenue, Rikugien garden and Senso-ji
Start beneath the golden ginkgo avenue of Meiji Jingu Gaien, then slow down in Rikugien, the Edo strolling garden at its best when the maples catch fire and lit up at night in peak weeks. The afternoon is Asakusa: the Kaminarimon gate, snacks along Nakamise and Senso-ji in the late light.
Momiji Corridor, Oishi Park and a ryokan night
Drive out to the Fuji Five Lakes. Walk the Momiji Corridor, the canal-side tunnel of maples on the lake's north shore, and catch Mt Fuji over the water from Oishi Park. Check in at an onsen ryokan for tatami rooms, yukata, a kaiseki dinner and a hot-spring bath under the mountain.
Lake Ashi cruise, ropeway and lakeside torii
A Hakone day at foliage time. Cruise Lake Ashi between hillsides of red and gold, ride the ropeway over the steaming Owakudani valley, and finish at the lakeside torii of Hakone Shrine framed by maples. A second onsen night follows.
Bullet train, Tofuku-ji maples and lantern-lit Gion
Ride the shinkansen to the old capital and go straight to autumn's headline act: Tofuku-ji, whose Tsutenkyo bridge floats over a valley of maples. As the light drops, walk the lantern-lit Hanamikoji street in Gion.
Kiyomizu-dera, the preserved lanes and night maples
Kyoto's eastern hills in full colour. Stand on the wooden stage of Kiyomizu-dera above a sea of maples, wind down Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, then come back after dark for Eikando's illuminated garden, in season.
Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji and an afternoon strolling garden
The Golden Pavilion doubled in its mirror pond, then the fifteen stones of Ryoan-ji's rock garden. In the afternoon a classic strolling garden where the bridges and maples were composed for exactly this month, taken slowly, with tea on the way.
Togetsukyo bridge, Tenryu-ji and the Sagano lanes
West to Arashiyama while the hillsides burn over the Togetsukyo bridge. The Zen garden of Tenryu-ji borrows the mountain as its backdrop; behind it lie the bamboo grove and the quiet Sagano lanes, where thatched gates sit under red maples.
Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha and the drive to Osaka
A day in Nara. The sacred deer bow for crackers under ginkgo trees, the Great Buddha waits in the vast wooden hall of Todai-ji, and the stone-lantern path to Kasuga Taisha runs through turning forest. By evening you check in under Osaka's neon.
Minoh gorge trail and transfer to the airport
A last morning on the wooded gorge trail of Minoh Park, where the waterfall drops through a wall of red maples. Try the maple-leaf tempura on the way. Then a private transfer to Kansai International Airport for your flight home.
