Full description

This is a 5-hour experience in Osaka, built around Osaka Castle, Subway / metro and Namba. It is run by Hungry Osaka Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Osaka is Japan's kitchen: the city that invented takoyaki, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, and Dotonbori's canal of neon signs is where it eats them. Osaka Castle is a 1931 concrete reconstruction of Hideyoshi's fortress with a museum inside and a moat and park worth an hour; Kuromon market is the food market; Shinsekai is the retro district under Tsutenkaku tower; Umeda Sky Building has the open-air observatory. Osaka is the base for day trips to Nara, Kobe, Himeji and Koyasan, all under an hour and a half. The city is louder and cheaper than Kyoto and its people are known for it.

The price covers A local guide will accompany you throughout, Complimentary lunch featuring Osaka-style street food with, Quirky facts and This tour is mainly on foot. One short train ride required. It does not cover One short train ride, Vegan and gluten-free diets, Tickets to any attractions and Entrance into Osaka Castle on private tours, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Hungry Osaka Tours sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Hungry Osaka Tours before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Davin knows so much about the history and urban development of Osaka that this guided tour is a must-have when you visit Osaka! I love the food he recommends, such as Udon.

The tour guide Davin went above and beyong his role as a tour guide, maintaining comfortable walking pace, suggesting good photoshot spots and even making group members photos for us; the mountain of knowledge he has about Japanese history, particulars of Japanese lifestyle, customs and culture - was astonishing, and sharing this information is much appreciated. I learned a lot about Japan during this tour. I would recommend it with confidence to anyone visiting Osaka

Davin gave our group of 10 or 11 a superb Osaka tour today. He was the first guide of five we have had in Japan who took time at the start to actually outline how the five hours would unfold. How refreshing! He was a wealth of knowledge about Japan, and his own Australian upbringing plus Japanese heritage allowed him to understand and share both the insider and outsider perspective on life in Japan and Osaka. He spoke loud and walked backwards as he spoke so that we could actually hear him! How considerate! And he had an open attitude to ALL questions with no question off limits. Perhaps our b

Really well organised tour in terms of spots to see and transportation in between the spots. Davin was very kind, knowledgeable and open to questions. Best guide in Osaka, thank you Davin! :)

An absolute must-do, even for long-term residents! Having lived in Japan for over a decade, I tend to think I already know my way around and understand the local history pretty well. My tour with Davin yesterday completely proved me wrong in the best way possible. Davin is an incredibly knowledgeable guide who taught me so much that I had never picked up on my own. Beyond his deep understanding of the area, what really stood out was his adaptability and skill as a tour leader. He navigated us through incredibly crowded environments with absolute ease, ensuring we never felt rushed, lost, or ov

What an amazing day with Scott! We started with a history lesson which was much more detailed than we had heard prior. Scott took us to areas where we would not have stopped and also too fantastic photos. Doing the historic portion first was a fantastic way to get engrained in Osaka. Then we went to the busier part of the city to see the culture, understand the how the city has evolved, and then try some outstanding and unique food. Scott made us feel at ease and answered any questions about the culture, the language and living in Japan. Highly recommend this tour! The fish market was like not

Scott was an amazing guide. He showed us around Osaka and pointed out some unique spots that only locals know about. I strongly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to dive deep into Osaka.

Tim (guide) is so full of life. He gave a good rundown of the the area's culture and history, and also was effective with herding the crowds when they walk on the wrong side of the side walk. The pace was just right, 5hrs is a sweet spot between experiencing a place and not getting burnt out chasing the next landmark. Great job Tim, Andy and the Hungry Osaka team.

Tour guide, Tim was great. He made the history telling fun & interesting. Using the train/subway to get around helps first timer like myself to know how to navigate my way around on my own. Good job👍

We spent the full day today on a private, personalised tour with Kenzo our guide. He was superb from start to finish. He asked us our priorities for the day and made sure we crammed as much into our seven hours together as possible. Kenzo is very knowledgeable about Osaka, the history and culture of Japan but as he spent his early years in Australia his English is superb - he is an English language teacher too! We chatted like old friends throughout the day and it genuinely felt like we were just enjoying spending the day together. We walked for miles, used the rail system and wondered at the

Anna was AWESOME! She got us water, picked key rest areas to beat the heat, and most importantly gave us so much information on Osaka that made it magical. Must tour and be sure to ask for Anna! I’d honestly do it again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yes — Nara is about 30-45 minutes by Kintetsu train for the deer park and Todai-ji, and Kyoto is roughly 29 minutes by JR Special Rapid. Both are easy half-day or full-day trips. See our Osaka to Nara guide and Osaka to Kyoto guide.
Takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancake) are Osaka's signature street foods, best sampled around Dotonbori and Kuromon Market. See our Osaka food guide.
Yes — it's the city's neon-lit entertainment and food district, and while it's undeniably touristy, the energy, canal-side glow, and street food density make it genuinely worth an evening. See the Dotonbori guide.
Shinsekai is Osaka's retro, slightly gritty downtown district built around the Tsutenkaku Tower, known for kushikatsu (fried skewers). It's generally safe for tourists, especially in the daytime and early evening. See the Shinsekai guide.
