This evening trip runs only in the Halloween season, from September through October, and it is the operator's one night-time departure of the year. You meet your guide at 18:00 inside Kintetsu Namba Station in Osaka and travel out to the foot of Mount Ikoma, the mountain that forms the ridge between Osaka and the Nara plain. From there the ascent is made on the Hozanji line, which opened in 1918 and is Japan's first cable car, a small funicular that still climbs the wooded slope after dark.

At the top stands Hozanji, a temple founded in the year 665 as a place for Buddhist monks to train. The approach runs along a forest path lined with Jizo statues, the small stone guardian figures found all over rural Japan, and in the dark, under lamplight and moving cloud, the walk takes on the mystical, slightly unreal quality people usually compare to a Ghibli film. Your guide explains what the mountain has meant to worshippers, why the temple was built where it was, and what the statues along the path are actually for, so the atmosphere is backed by real context rather than ghost-story theatrics.

The tour lasts roughly three and a half hours and returns you to Kintetsu Namba Station at about 21:30, so you are back in central Osaka for the night. Train fares between Osaka and Ikoma and the cable car fee are paid separately on the day and are not part of the price, and there is no meal stop, so eat before you set out. Because it is a seasonal Halloween departure, dates outside September and October are not available.

The group travels by public train and cable car, so you will be walking on station platforms, stairs and an uneven forest path in the dark. Train and cable fares are paid by each guest on the day, roughly USD 6 each way in total. There is no dinner stop, so eat before the 18:00 meeting time.
