This tour only operates during the cherry blossom season, broadly late March to mid or late April, and the operator currently lists it as spring 2027 departures. It cannot be booked outside the bloom, because the entire day is built around a single tree. Matabei Zakura is a weeping cherry said to be about 300 years old, standing alone on a slope in Uda, in the eastern hills of Nara prefecture, and when it opens it draws photographers from across Japan.

Departure is from Osaka: the group gathers at the Goto-chi souvenir shop by the East ticket gate on level B2 of Kintetsu Namba Station and travels out by train and bus into the countryside. Uda is farmland and small towns rather than temple district, and the pace reflects that. The day includes a riverside blossom walk along the Uda river, a stop at a community foot bath, and time at a michi no eki roadside station where local farmers and craftspeople sell what they have made. It closes at the preserved merchant streetscape of Uda Matsuyama, a district of traditional houses that has kept its old street plan.

It is worth being clear about what this is not. There are no deer, no Great Buddha and no crowds of coach tourists; if this is your only day in the region and you want Todai-ji and Nara Park, book a different tour.
