Full description

This full-day trip from Bangkok takes you to three of the most unique attractions outside the city, all in one comfortable outing.

Your morning starts with a pickup from your Bangkok hotel (or one of five central meeting points) in an air-conditioned van. First stop is Maeklong Railway Market, where a working train passes directly through the market stalls several times a day. You will ride the train right into the market yourself and watch as vendors swiftly fold their awnings and pull back their goods just seconds before the train rolls through. It is one of those things you have to see to believe.

From there, head to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, one of the most famous markets in Thailand. Hop on a traditional longtail boat and cruise through the narrow canals lined with vendors selling tropical fruits, fresh coconut ice cream, pad thai and handmade souvenirs from their wooden boats. It is a colorful, lively scene and a great place to grab a snack or pick up gifts.

The final stop is Wat Samphran, better known as the Dragon Temple. This striking 17-storey pink tower is wrapped by a giant dragon sculpture that spirals all the way to the top. You can walk through the dragon tunnel inside the tower and climb up for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. It is one of the most photogenic spots in all of Thailand and still relatively off the beaten path.

You will be back in Bangkok by late afternoon.

Detailed Itinerary

Pickup points and times:

- Pratunam Market: 07:10 AM

- Chinatown (Yaowarat): 07:30 AM

Stop 2: Maeklong Railway Market (about 60 minutes)

The highlight here is riding the train as it passes directly through the market. Vendors line both sides of the active railway track, selling fresh produce, meats and snacks. When the train horn sounds, they fold up their awnings and pull back their goods in a matter of seconds. The train rolls through just inches from the stalls, and moments later everything is set up again like nothing happened. After the train passes, you have time to walk through the market and browse.

---

Stop 3: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (about 75 minutes)

Board a traditional longtail boat and cruise through the narrow canals of Thailand's most famous floating market. Vendors paddle wooden boats loaded with tropical fruits, coconut ice cream, pad thai, grilled seafood and handmade souvenirs. The atmosphere is vibrant and colorful. You have free time to explore, eat and shop at your own pace.

---

Stop 4: Wat Samphran Dragon Temple (about 60 minutes)

The Dragon Temple is one of the most unusual and photogenic places in Thailand. A massive dragon sculpture wraps around a 17-storey pink cylindrical tower, spiraling from the base all the way to the top. You can walk through the dragon tunnel inside the tower and climb the stairs for sweeping views of the Nakhon Pathom countryside. Unlike the more tourist-heavy sites, this temple is still relatively quiet and uncrowded.

---

Stop 5: Return to Bangkok (about 90 minutes)

After the Dragon Temple, the van heads back to Bangkok. You will be dropped off at your hotel or a central location by late afternoon, usually around 4:00 to 4:30 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions

The full day tour runs approximately 8 to 9 hours from hotel pickup to hotel drop-off. Pickup starts between 7:00 and 8:50 AM depending on your hotel location, and you return to Bangkok by approximately 4:00 to 4:30 PM. The tour includes about 60 minutes at Maeklong Railway Market, 75 minutes at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, and 60 minutes at the Dragon Temple, with driving time between stops.
The train passes through Maeklong Railway Market 8 times per day, roughly every 2 to 3 hours. The most common morning times are around 8:30 AM and 11:10 AM. Your guide times the visit to coincide with one of these train arrivals so you see the full spectacle of vendors folding up their stalls. The train horn sounds about 2 minutes before arrival, giving vendors time to pull back their awnings and goods. The whole process takes about 3 to 4 minutes and then everything goes back to normal within seconds. It is one of the most unique things you will see in Thailand.
Damnoen Saduak is Thailand's most famous floating market and yes, it attracts tourists. That said, it is still a genuine, operating market where locals sell real produce, fresh food and handmade goods from their boats. The atmosphere is lively and colourful. The longtail boat ride through the narrow canals is the best way to experience it. Prices at the market are slightly higher than in Bangkok but you can bargain. Bring Thai baht in small bills (20, 50 and 100 baht notes) as vendors often cannot make change for large notes. The best food buys are fresh coconut ice cream, mango sticky rice, pad thai and grilled seafood.
Wat Samphran, commonly called the Dragon Temple, is located in Nakhon Pathom province about 40 km west of Bangkok. It features a striking 17-storey pink cylindrical tower wrapped by a massive green and gold dragon sculpture that spirals from the base to the top. You can walk through a tunnel inside the dragon and climb the tower for panoramic countryside views. The temple was built in the 1980s and is one of the most unique and photogenic temples in Thailand. Unlike Bangkok's famous temples, the Dragon Temple is still relatively unknown to international tourists, so it is usually quiet and uncrowded.
Yes, complimentary hotel pickup and drop-off is included for hotels within 8 km driving distance of Khaosan Road and the Rambuttri area. If your hotel is outside this zone, you can meet the group at one of five central Bangkok pickup points: Pratunam Market (07:10 AM), Chinatown Yaowarat (07:30 AM), MRT Sam Yot Station Exit 3 (08:00 AM), Khaosan Road at Lampoo Ocean Travel (08:30 AM), or Central Pinklao (08:50 AM). Your exact pickup time is confirmed via WhatsApp the day before the tour.
The tour uses a comfortable air-conditioned van for all transportation. The drive from Bangkok to the first stop (Maeklong) takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes depending on morning traffic. The van has reclining seats, tinted windows and USB charging ports. Since this is a shared group tour with a maximum of 12 guests, the van makes several hotel pickup stops before leaving Bangkok. The total pickup process can take 60 to 90 minutes, so bring something to read or listen to for the morning drive.
Yes, the longtail boat ride through the canals of Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is included in the tour price. The boat cruise lasts about 20 to 30 minutes and takes you through the narrow waterways lined with wooden houses and market stalls. Vendors paddle up alongside your boat selling fruits, drinks and souvenirs. The boat has a canopy for shade. This is the traditional and best way to experience the floating market, rather than walking the concrete paths along the canal edges.
Yes, you can walk through the dragon tunnel inside the tower and climb the stairs toward the upper levels. The dragon's body forms a tunnel that wraps around the outside of the cylindrical tower. Some sections are steep and narrow, so wear comfortable shoes with good grip. The climb rewards you with panoramic views of the Nakhon Pathom countryside and surrounding temples. The climb is optional and suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness. There are rest points along the way. The interior also contains Buddha statues and small shrines at various levels.
Lunch is not included in the tour price, but both markets offer excellent and affordable food options. At Damnoen Saduak Floating Market you can buy fresh pad thai, grilled seafood, coconut ice cream, mango sticky rice and tropical fruit smoothies directly from the boat vendors, with most items costing 30 to 80 baht (about $1 to $2.50). At Maeklong Railway Market there are also food stalls selling grilled meats, fresh fruit and Thai snacks. Your guide can recommend the best food vendors at each market. Bring at least 300 to 500 baht in small bills for food and purchases.
Yes, children aged 5 and above will enjoy this tour. The train passing through Maeklong Market is exciting and memorable for kids. The longtail boat ride is fun and safe (life jackets available). The Dragon Temple's dragon tunnel feels like an adventure. That said, the tour involves an early morning start (7:00 to 8:50 AM pickup) and a long day with several hours of driving. Very young children or toddlers may find the day tiring. The van has air conditioning and there are restroom stops between each attraction. Children under 120 cm typically get free or reduced entry at the Dragon Temple.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and lightweight clothing. At the Dragon Temple, shoulders and knees should be covered (standard Thai temple dress code). Bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses as much of the tour is outdoors. Pack Thai baht in small bills (500 baht minimum recommended) for food and market purchases. A light rain jacket is advisable during rainy season (June to October). Bring your camera or phone as all three stops are extremely photogenic. A small backpack is more practical than a handbag since you will be getting in and out of boats and vans throughout the day.
This tour operates year-round but the best months are November to February (cool season) when temperatures are comfortable at 25 to 32 degrees with low humidity and clear skies. March to May (hot season) is very hot, reaching 35 to 38 degrees, so bring extra water and sun protection. June to October (rainy season) can bring afternoon showers but mornings are usually dry and the markets are less crowded. The floating market and railway market are covered or have shade, so rain rarely cancels the tour. The Dragon Temple is best photographed in morning light regardless of season.
