Full description

Experience Thailand's national martial art with a private 60-minute Muay Thai training session at FITFAC Academy — one of Bangkok's most respected and beginner-friendly gyms, rated 4.9 stars with over 380 reviews.

Whether you're a complete beginner curious about Muay Thai or an experienced fighter looking to sharpen your skills, this session is tailored entirely to your level. Your certified Kru (Muay Thai trainer) will guide you through authentic techniques — from basic stance and footwork to powerful punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes that define the Art of Eight Limbs.

Unlike group classes, this 1-on-1 private session means your trainer's full attention is on you. They'll correct your form in real-time, adapt the intensity to your fitness level, and make sure you leave feeling accomplished — whether you came for the workout, the culture, or both.

FITFAC has 11 air-conditioned gyms across Bangkok, all easily accessible via BTS or MRT. Locations range from riverside spots near the Chao Phraya to central hubs like Ekamai, Ploenchit, and Sukhumvit. After booking, simply share your hotel name and they'll recommend the most convenient branch.

As a special touch, every participant receives a pair of handmade Muay Thai shorts — a beautiful, functional souvenir you'll actually use. Combined with the optional hotel pickup service, FITFAC makes the entire experience seamless from start to finish.

This is more than just a fitness class — it's a genuine cultural immersion into Thailand's most iconic fighting art, guided by trainers who live and breathe Muay Thai.

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Flexible10 min

Welcome & Warm-Up

20 min

Muay Thai Fundamentals

10 min

Pad Work Combinations & Cool Down

Put everything together with flowing pad-work combinations that simulate real Muay Thai exchanges. Finish with a cool-down stretch. Your trainer will share tips on how to continue practicing at home. Collect your free Muay Thai shorts and take photos at the gym!

Detailed Itinerary

Welcome & Warm-Up | 10 minutes

Your Muay Thai experience begins the moment you arrive at your assigned FITFAC branch — or even earlier if you've selected the hotel pickup option, where a driver will collect you directly from your accommodation.

At the gym, you'll be greeted by your certified Kru (Muay Thai trainer) in a clean, modern, fully air-conditioned facility. You'll be fitted with boxing gloves and hand wraps (all provided free of charge), shown the shower rooms and lockers, and given your complimentary pair of handmade Muay Thai shorts.

The warm-up includes light stretching, skipping rope, and shadow boxing to get your body moving and your mind focused. Your trainer will assess your fitness level and any previous martial arts experience to tailor the session perfectly to you.

---

Muay Thai Fundamentals | 20 minutes

With your body warmed up, your trainer begins teaching the foundational techniques of Muay Thai. You'll learn the proper fighting stance — weight distribution, guard position, and how to move fluidly on the balls of your feet.

From there, you'll work through the four basic punches: the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut. Your Kru will demonstrate each technique, then hold Thai pads for you to practice on — correcting your form, hip rotation, and breathing in real-time. This 1-on-1 attention is what makes a private session so much more effective than a group class.

---

Kicks, Elbows & Knees — The Art of Eight Limbs | 20 minutes

Now you'll discover why Muay Thai is called the Art of Eight Limbs. Unlike Western boxing which uses only fists, Muay Thai incorporates strikes from fists, elbows, knees, and shins — eight points of contact that make it one of the most complete striking arts in the world.

Your trainer will teach you the iconic Muay Thai roundhouse kick (the most powerful kick in combat sports), basic elbow strikes, and knee techniques. You'll practice these on Thai pads, and your Kru will gradually increase the complexity as you gain confidence.

---

Pad Work Combinations & Cool Down | 10 minutes

The final phase brings everything together. Your trainer will call out combinations — jab-cross-kick! — and you'll flow through sequences that simulate real Muay Thai exchanges. This is where the training comes alive and you start to feel the rhythm of the art.

The session wraps up with a gentle cool-down stretch to prevent soreness. Your trainer will share tips on how to continue practicing at home and answer any questions about Muay Thai culture and training.

Before you leave, grab a photo with your trainer at the gym — still wearing your new Muay Thai shorts, of course. If you selected the return transfer option, your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

  • 60-minute private 1-on-1 Muay Thai session with certified trainer
  • Free handmade Muay Thai shorts (yours to keep)

Training Muay Thai with a certified fighter in Bangkok was a bucket list experience. The instructor was patient with my zero experience and had me throwing proper kicks and elbows within the first hour. The private format meant all the attention was on me. Incredible workout and cultural experience.

I was nervous as a complete beginner but the trainer put me at ease immediately. He broke down every technique step by step. Learning the art of eight limbs in the country where it was born was unforgettable. The private session meant I could go at my own pace without embarrassment.

Great private Muay Thai session with a certified fighter. He covered the basics of stance, punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. The training was intense but manageable. Only 4 stars because the facility was basic, but the instruction quality was top-notch. Bring a towel and plenty of water.

My boyfriend and I did this together and it was the most fun workout of our lives. The fighter trainer was incredibly skilled and made us feel like real fighters by the end. He shared stories about his fighting career which added so much authenticity. Must-do in Bangkok.

Never done any martial arts before but this was amazing. The private trainer made everything accessible and fun. He taught me the Wai Kru (the pre-fight ritual dance) which was a beautiful cultural moment. Left feeling empowered and with sore muscles in the best way.

Really enjoyed the private Muay Thai session. The certified fighter was professional and knowledgeable. He adjusted the intensity to my fitness level which I appreciated. I train BJJ back home so it was great to learn a striking art. Facilities were simple but clean. Good value.

This was my favourite thing in Bangkok. Learning Muay Thai from an actual certified fighter who has competed professionally was surreal. He was patient, encouraging, and incredibly skilled. The private session format was perfect for a beginner like me. Left with huge respect for the sport.

Phenomenal experience. The trainer was a former stadium fighter and you could tell from his technique. Private session meant he could focus entirely on me and correct my form in real time. We covered striking combos, clinch work, and even some basic defense. Best workout of my trip.

Great Muay Thai experience with a legit fighter. The training was challenging but he scaled it to my level. Learned proper technique for kicks, knees, and elbow strikes. It was hot in the gym but that's part of the authentic experience. Would book a longer session next time.

As a woman traveling solo I was a bit hesitant but the trainer was completely professional and made me feel safe and welcome. Learning Muay Thai in its homeland was incredibly empowering. The private session meant I could ask questions freely. Left with new skills and a huge smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

No experience is required. This private session is designed to accommodate complete beginners through to experienced practitioners. The certified trainer assesses your level at the start and structures the entire session around your current ability and goals. Beginners learn the fundamental eight weapons of Muay Thai — punches, kicks, elbows and knees — with heavy focus on correct technique, body mechanics and defensive positioning. If you have prior boxing or martial arts experience, the trainer adjusts the pace and complexity accordingly, introducing Thai boxing-specific combinations, pad work and ring awareness.
The session includes a full warm-up, technique instruction covering Muay Thai strikes and defence, supervised pad work with the trainer, optional light sparring or partner drills depending on your comfort level, a cool-down stretch, and a briefing on Thai boxing culture and its history. Free Muay Thai shorts are provided on arrival so you can train in traditional style. Water, hand wraps and gloves are provided at the academy. The session runs for approximately 60 to 90 minutes depending on the option booked. You also get a chance to see the gym, meet the fighters in training, and ask the trainer about their career.
Yes, three pricing options are available: training only with no pickup ($60), training with one-way hotel pickup ($72), and training with round-trip hotel pickup ($85). Hotel pickup is available for most areas of Bangkok and covers all major tourist districts including Sukhumvit, Silom, Khaosan Road and Siam. The round-trip option is recommended if this is your first time visiting the gym, as it removes any navigation stress and ensures you arrive on time and relaxed. Pickup is in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.
FITFAC is a professional Muay Thai academy with 11 branches across Bangkok, making it one of the city's most accessible training facilities. The academy trains both competitive fighters and recreational learners. Your trainer is a certified and experienced fighter, not just a fitness instructor — meaning the technical instruction is genuinely high quality. The specific branch used for your session depends on your hotel location and preferred pickup point. FITFAC is a legitimate gym where real Thai boxers train daily alongside tourist participants.
A 60 to 90 minute Muay Thai session is a significant cardiovascular workout even at a beginner level. You will be sweating heavily by the 20-minute mark. The trainer monitors your energy and adjusts the intensity, ensuring you are challenged without being pushed to exhaustion or injury. Most participants describe the class as the most physical activity they do during their Thailand trip — which makes it even more satisfying. If you have any injuries, joint issues or health conditions, inform the trainer before the session begins. Modifications are always available.
Wear lightweight athletic clothing you can move freely in — shorts and a t-shirt are ideal. Free Muay Thai shorts are provided so you can change into them at the gym. Bring a small towel and a change of clothes for after the session. Athletic trainers or bare feet are both acceptable for training. Bring a water bottle — though water is available at the gym, having your own ensures you stay hydrated throughout the session. Remove all jewellery and watches before training. A camera or phone is welcome — the trainer and staff are happy for you to photograph and video the session.
Muay Thai is far more comprehensive than Western boxing. Known as the Art of Eight Limbs, it uses fists (like boxing), elbows, knees and kicks — giving fighters eight points of attack compared to boxing's two. Clinch work (holding and striking at close range) is also a major element of Muay Thai that has no equivalent in Western boxing. Thai boxing also has a strong spiritual dimension — traditional fighters perform the Wai Kru ceremony before fights to honour their teachers. Your trainer will explain the cultural and religious significance of these rituals during your session.
Yes — Bangkok has two world-famous Muay Thai stadiums: Rajadamnern Stadium (established 1945) and Lumpinee Stadium (established 1956). Both hold regular fight nights featuring professional Thai and international fighters. Taking a Muay Thai training session before attending a live fight transforms the experience — you understand the techniques, the strategy and the difficulty of what the fighters are doing at a completely different level. Your trainer can recommend upcoming fight nights and explain how to buy tickets. See our Bangkok travel guide for event listings and tips.
Yes, children aged 10 and above can participate in the private session. The trainer adapts the session entirely for younger participants — focusing on coordination, basic strikes and pad work at an appropriate intensity. Many families book this as one of their most memorable Bangkok activities. Younger children enjoy hitting the pads and wearing the traditional Muay Thai shorts. Parents can participate alongside children in a shared session. Muay Thai is an important part of Thai culture, and learning even the basics gives children a genuine window into Thai martial tradition that they will talk about for years.
