Highlights

  • Drive your own ATV on real jungle and plantation trails
  • Practice loop and full briefing before the ride starts
  • Splash through mud sections and water crossings
  • Stop at a hilltop viewpoint over the karst landscape
  • Lead and sweep guides so every pace is covered

Full description

Ten minutes inland from Ao Nang the resorts vanish and the road turns to red dirt. This is where the trail network runs, cutting through rubber plantations, palm groves and stretches of jungle that swallow the sound of the engines. On a quad bike you cover ground no minivan tour will ever reach.

You drive your own machine after a hands-on lesson on a practice loop, so the throttle, brakes and cornering are second nature before the real trail starts. A lead guide sets the pace at the front and a second rider sweeps at the back, which means fast riders get their fun and nervous first-timers never feel left behind. The route mixes flat plantation lanes with rutted climbs, water crossings and the mud that makes the whole thing worth doing.

Halfway through you park at a hilltop clearing looking out over the karst peaks and green valley below, catch your breath and take photos before the descent. Riders should be at least sixteen to drive; younger children can ride as passengers.

10:45 AM30 minutes

Descent and finish

Detailed Itinerary

Check-in at the base camp takes about fifteen minutes from 09:00: a waiver, a helmet fitting and a quick look at the machine you will be driving. By 09:15 you are on the practice loop, running through throttle control, braking and cornering until the guide is happy that everyone can handle the trail.

The main ride begins around 09:35 and lasts close to an hour. It opens on smooth plantation lanes to build confidence, then tightens into jungle track with roots, ruts and puddles deep enough to coat the quad. Around 10:25 the group parks at a hill clearing where the whole valley and its limestone towers open up, and there is twenty minutes for photos and water.

The descent takes a different line back and delivers you to base by roughly 11:15, muddy and grinning, with a rinse-off area and somewhere to change.

You get your own quad, not a shared one, and after ten minutes of practice on the flat you are into the mud. The rubber plantation section is fast and the hill climb at the end has a proper view over the countryside. I was filthy from the waist down and delighted about it.

Rained the night before so the jungle track was a mud bath, which honestly made it. The guide leads at a pace that suits the slowest rider and checks on everyone at each break. Two hours is plenty, your arms will know about it.

Never ridden a quad before and it was fine, the controls are simple and they run through everything first. Helmets and goggles provided and they hose the bikes and you down at the end. Bring a change of clothes, no exceptions.

Great fun and the hill views were lovely. The mud is not optional, so if you are precious about your clothes this is not for you. Also the engines are loud and the dust in the dry sections is heavy, a buff over your mouth helps.

Best two hours of adrenaline we found in Krabi. Trails go through rubber plantations and small villages so you see a side of the area the boat tours miss. Guide stopped for photos at the top without us asking.

I was nervous and asked to go last, and the second guide rode behind me the whole way. By the halfway point I was overtaking people. Short, cheap and a genuine highlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

No licence is needed and complete beginners are the majority of riders. You get a briefing and a practice loop on flat ground before heading onto the trails, and the guide sets the pace for the slowest rider. If you have driven a car or ridden a bike you will pick up the controls in minutes.
The standard booking is one quad per rider. Couples or a parent and child can ride tandem on most machines if requested, and some operators can seat a young child behind an adult with the guide's approval. Confirm tandem and child policies before booking as minimum ages vary.
Very. The route runs jungle tracks, rubber plantation trails and a hill climb, and after rain the mud is deep and constant — you will be covered from the waist down and often higher. In dry weather it is dust rather than mud, which is just as messy. Bring a full change of clothes and shoes you can hose off.
Helmets and goggles are supplied and required, and gloves are usually available. A lead guide rides in front and a second often follows at the back, checking on riders at each break. Speeds are moderate and controlled; this is not a race circuit.
It is a solid session and your arms and shoulders will feel it, especially on rough ground. Most people find two hours is exactly enough before fatigue sets in. There are stops along the way, including at the hill viewpoint, so it is not continuous riding.
Hotel pickup from the Ao Nang area is typically included and the ride out to the trails takes around 20 to 30 minutes. The 2-hour duration usually refers to the activity itself, so allow closer to three hours door to door. Check your voucher for the pickup window.
Usually yes — rain generally makes the trails better, not worse — and operators only cancel for thunderstorms or genuinely unsafe conditions. Wet season riding is muddier and more fun for most people. If a storm cancels your slot you will normally be offered a reschedule or refund.
