After a morning pickup from your Pattaya hotel, it's a scenic 45-minute drive into the Chonburi countryside to reach the sanctuary. You'll start with an orientation from the team — how to approach the elephants, what they like, and the stories of how each animal came to live here. Then it's straight into the feeding session, with baskets of bananas and sugarcane disappearing quickly into eager trunks.
The middle of the day is spent walking with the herd through the jungle around the sanctuary, an unhurried trek where the elephants set the pace and stop to browse whenever they like. Afterwards comes the messy, memorable part: the mud bath, where guests scrub the elephants down before everyone rinses off at the water hole. Exactly what we hoped an ethical sanctuary would be. No riding, no chains, no performing — just elephants living in a big green space and us fitting around their day. Feeding them bananas while they gently took them from our hands was extraordinary. The mud bath left us filthy and grinning.
We researched a lot before booking because so many places call themselves ethical without being it. This one is the real thing. The carers clearly know and love each animal, and they told us the rescue story behind every elephant. Walking beside them through the jungle was humbling.
The highlight of our Thailand trip, without question. It's about 45 minutes from Pattaya and the countryside drive is pretty in itself. Home-cooked Thai lunch was simple and delicious, eaten under a shelter looking out at the herd. Bring clothes you don't mind ruining.
Took our kids aged 8 and 11 and it was perfect for them. The staff were patient, made sure everyone was safe around the animals, and explained things at a level the children understood. Seeing my daughter's face when an elephant took fruit from her hand was priceless.

Wonderful experience and clearly a well-cared-for herd. Only small point is that it is genuinely hot and muddy work, so go prepared with a change of clothes, a towel and plenty of water. The sanctuary provides some but bring your own too. No regrets at all.
Emotional day in the best way. One of the older rescued elephants had come from a logging camp and hearing her story while she stood peacefully eating beside us was moving. Transport from our Pattaya hotel was easy and comfortable both ways.
