Rising more than 100 meters above the shoreline of Naklua Bay, the Sanctuary of Truth is unlike any other building in Thailand — a monumental temple constructed entirely of wood, without a single metal nail, and covered inside and out with hand-carved figures drawn from Thai, Khmer, Chinese, and Indian tradition. Construction began in 1981 and continues to this day, so on any visit you're likely to see master carvers at work, chiseling new sculptures the same way their predecessors did decades ago.
This admission ticket covers your entry to the sanctuary and its seaside grounds. Inside, every surface tells a story: deities, celestial beings, and mythological scenes climb the pillars and ceilings in dizzying layers of detail, all meant to express a philosophical vision of humanity's relationship with the universe. The setting adds to the effect — the temple stands right at the water's edge, and the views of its carved spires against the sea are among the most photographed in Pattaya.
Most visitors spend around 90 minutes to two hours here, joining one of the regular guided walk-throughs included with entry and then exploring the grounds at their own pace. Hard hats are provided where required, as parts of the structure remain an active carving site.

On arrival at the Naklua site, present your ticket at the entrance, where staff hand out hard hats for the sections of the temple still under active construction and run through a short safety briefing. Visits typically begin with a guided walk-through: your guide leads you inside the vast wooden hall, decoding the layers of carved deities and mythological scenes that cover every pillar and ceiling panel, and explaining the philosophical program behind the building's design.
Afterward you're free to explore on your own. The workshop areas are a highlight — craftsmen carve new panels and repair older ones in full view, giving you a rare look at a monument that is genuinely still being built after four decades. Save time for the seafront side of the grounds, where the temple's spires photograph beautifully against Naklua Bay, especially in the softer light of late afternoon. Most guests are done within two hours, making this an easy half-day pairing with other Pattaya sights.

Genuinely one of the most remarkable buildings I've ever stood inside. Every surface is carved wood, floor to ceiling, and craftsmen are still working on it as you walk around. The scale doesn't come across in photos — you need to be there.
Extraordinary place and well worth the ticket. They give you a hard hat because construction is ongoing, which somehow makes it more special — you're seeing a living building rather than a finished monument. The seafront setting is beautiful too.
Stunning craftsmanship. Not a single metal nail in the whole structure, all wooden joinery, and the carvings mix Thai, Khmer, Chinese and Indian mythology. The short guided walk-through explained the symbolism well. Allow at least ninety minutes.
Loved it. Skipping the ticket queue was easy and we were inside quickly. The detail is overwhelming in the best way — I kept finding new figures the longer I looked. Grounds by the sea are lovely for a wander afterwards.
Beautiful and unique, definitely worth seeing. Do note there's a dress code covering shoulders and knees, and sarongs are available if needed. It can get busy mid-morning with tour groups, so go early for quieter photos.
A masterpiece. The sheer ambition of building something like this entirely from teak, by hand, over decades, is hard to comprehend. Watching the carvers at work was as interesting as the building itself. Very reasonable entrance fee.

A special place that locals are proud of. Beautiful carvings and a calm atmosphere by the sea. It is quite hot walking around midday and there's limited shade on the approach, so bring a hat and water.
