Der klassische Krabi-Tag, per Longtail-Boot statt Speedboot durchgeführt, und abgestimmt auf eine Sandbank, die nur für einen Teil des Tages existiert.

Thale Waek, das geteilte Meer, ist ein Sandstreifen, der bei Niedrigwasser auftaucht und die Inseln Tup, Mor und Chicken zu einer begehbaren Landzunge verbindet. Bei Hochwasser ist er einfach weg. Deshalb wird dieser Ausflug nach dem Gezeitenkalender geplant und nicht nach einer festen Abfahrtszeit, und deshalb ist hier überhaupt ein Foto möglich, auf dem Leute mitten im Meer stehen.

Chicken Island ist nach der Felsformation an seiner Spitze benannt, die aus dem richtigen Winkel wie ein Hühnerkopf aussieht und aus dem falschen wie kaum etwas Besonderes. Das Schnorcheln findet über flachen Korallen direkt vor dem Strand statt. Phra Nang hat den Höhlenschrein, an dem Fischer geschnitzte Opfergaben für einen Geist hinterlassen, der sie angeblich auf See schützt, und unabhängig davon ist er einer der besseren Strände Thailands. Tup und Poda sind Schwimm- und Liegestopps.

Das Longtail-Boot zählt. Es ist langsamer als ein Speedboot, lauter, und es bringt Sie in flaches Wasser, von dem Speedboote weit entfernt ankern müssen. Mit einem lokalen Kapitän zu fahren bedeutet auch, dass sich die Route dem Meer anpasst, statt an einem Zeitplan festzuhalten.

Detaillierter Ablauf

Transfers begin around 08:30 and the longtail leaves the pier once the group has boarded. The first anchorage is beside Chicken Island, where the water is shallow enough that even hesitant swimmers can see fish without going far from the boat.

Late morning is timed for the tide at Thale Waek, when the sandbar between the islands emerges and you can walk from one to the next. The crew watch the tide tables closely, so the exact hour of this stop shifts through the month.

Lunch is served on Poda at about 12:15, followed by a long, easy stretch of beach time. Mid-afternoon the boat moves to Phra Nang for the cave shrine and a final swim before turning back towards the mainland at around 15:15.
