Khlong Son se encuentra en los pliegues de las colinas detrás de la costa de Krabi, un paisaje de bosque, plantación y caminos de tierra que apenas aparece en el mapa turístico. Es campo tranquilo, y la mejor forma de recorrerlo es en un ATV, donde marca su propio ritmo y se detiene cada vez que una vista lo merece.
Tras una charla y un breve calentamiento en terreno llano, sale a un circuito de una hora. El sendero sube constantemente a través de la cubierta forestal, cruza plantaciones abiertas con crestas montañosas en el horizonte, y desciende por un par de barrancos que mantienen las cosas interesantes. Los guías conducen con el grupo todo el tiempo y ajustan la dificultad de la ruta a los pilotos que tienen, así que un grupo familiar y unos buscadores de emociones viven días bastante distintos en el mismo sendero.
La recogida en el hotel está disponible desde Ao Nang y Klong Muang, lo que convierte esto en un fácil complemento de media mañana o última hora de la tarde a unas vacaciones de playa. Las salidas de última hora captan la luz en su mejor momento sobre las colinas.

Hotel pickup
Collection from Ao Nang or Klong Moung hotels and transfer inland to the Khlong Son camp.
Gear up and warm-up
Helmet fitting, controls walkthrough and a short practice lap on flat ground.
Forest and hill trail ride
Ride the full loop through forest cover, plantation lanes and hill climbs with viewpoint stops.
Cool down and return
Rinse off at camp, enjoy a cold drink and transfer back to your hotel.
Itinerario detallado
Afternoon departures pick up around 14:00 from Ao Nang and Klong Moung, and the drive inland to Khlong Son takes roughly half an hour along back roads lined with rubber trees. At camp from 14:30 you are fitted with a helmet, shown the controls and given a practice lap so nobody's first corner is a surprise.
The hour on trail starts near 14:50. It opens under forest canopy where the track is packed dirt and shade, then climbs into open plantation where the ridgelines stretch out to the north. Guides stop the group two or three times, both to regroup and because the viewpoints are worth the pause. Gullies and short technical descents break up the ride for anyone wanting a bit more.
By about 15:50 you are back at camp for a rinse and a cold drink, returning to your hotel by roughly 16:30 with the light going gold over the hills.

It was a very enjoyable experience, spoilt only by some people's need to film everything for their online viewers. We wanted to go together on one quad bike and our bike was struggling on some hills (we are not oversized people)
The experience was great, we had so much fun. The views were great and the quad bike experience was amazing as well. We got dropped back to our hotel by the owner and had a lot of advice on what to do in Krabi - all was fantastic!
Khlong Son is greener and hillier than I expected and the trails run through proper forest rather than a fenced circuit. One quad each, and the guide let us open up on the wider sections. The viewpoint over the Krabi mountains was a real stop, not a two minute photo.
Hotel pickup from Ao Nang made it painless and the whole thing including transfers was under three hours. Briefing was thorough and they check your throttle control before letting you onto the trails. Muddy, bumpy and great.
Enjoyable ride and the scenery is worth it. Sixty two dollars for an hour of actual riding is on the expensive side compared to other quad operators in Krabi. The bikes were new and well maintained though, which may explain it.
Took visiting friends here and even as a local I had not been up these hill trails. The forest tracks after rain are slippery in a fun way and the guides know every rut. Good safety gear and they take it seriously.
An hour on the quad is short but it is a solid hour of riding, not queuing. Views over the mountains at the top were hazy but still lovely. They provide a rinse and you can leave your bag in a locker.
