Quatre-vingt-dix minutes à nourrir et à baigner des éléphants sauvés au refuge situé à l'extérieur de la ville de Krabi.
Les animaux ici viennent de camps d'équitation et de travaux d'abattage. La séance commence par le nourrissage, puis se poursuit dans l'eau avec une brosse. Pas de monte, pas de chaînes pendant le programme, pas de spectacles. Les éléphants entrent dans l'eau parce qu'ils le veulent, et ce sont les gardiens qui travaillent avec eux quotidiennement qui animent la séance, plutôt qu'une équipe touristique tournante.
Ce que vous apprenez réellement en quatre-vingt-dix minutes, c'est comment lire un éléphant : l'état des pieds, qui portent plusieurs tonnes et où la plupart des animaux captifs finissent par présenter des problèmes ; la peau derrière les oreilles ; la façon dont une trompe détendue pend. Une fois que vous le savez, vous pouvez passer devant n'importe quel camp en Thaïlande et deviner quel genre d'endroit c'est, ce qui dure plus longtemps que la visite elle-même.
Une réserve honnête. Certains spécialistes du bien-être animal estiment que les séances de bain répétées avec des inconnus constituent elles-mêmes une forme de spectacle, et plusieurs des sanctuaires thaïlandais les plus réputés ont cessé de les proposer pour cette raison. Ce refuge les organise encore. Si cela vous dérange, des programmes d'observation et de nourrissage existent à Krabi et conviennent mieux.
Également à préciser : les éléphants d'Asie en Thaïlande sont presque entièrement nés en captivité ou sauvés. Un refuge est un dispositif de retraite, pas une population sauvage, et les animaux dépendent des gens pour la nourriture et les soins vétérinaires. Tout endroit promettant un comportement sauvage exagère.

This was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had! The crew is just amazing, looking after every detail! They offered everything we needed, took beautiful photos, offered food. This was truly special. The place is incredibly clean, you can have a shower and they even offer toiletries. You can see they take good care of the elephants. I can’t recommend enough!

Our visit to bath with the elephants was amazing! In my kids words “the best experience of our life” Everything was perfect, it was so well run, you had an elephant to each family/group then you all swapped so you were getting to meet all the elephants. These beautiful beasts look healthy and well cared for and it’s so apparent that they are loved and cared for by their mahouts and the other workers at the sanctuary! this was such a fantastic experience! the communication before hand was excellent and we were collected on time. when we arrived we were given a bottle of water and a locker key. there was free tea, coffee and juice, and a shop with ice cream, souvenirs and water shoes if you forgot yours. We had a short talk about elephants before we got to go and meet each one. then we spent time feeding them before getting changed into swim wear for bathing and then showering. nothing felt rushed and sooooo many photos were taken on our own phones and by the staff who email you them for free. after bathing
