Make your own way to Koh Larn — ferries and speedboats run regularly from Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya — and meet the team at the launch site, where check-in starts with a thorough safety briefing. Absolutely unreal. This is proper free flight, not the boat-towed parasailing you see off the beach — you launch from the hill and then it's silent, just wind, with turquoise bays and white beaches underneath you. My instructor was calm, professional and clearly experienced.
I was nervous and had never done anything like it. The instructor talked me through everything, the launch was gentler than I feared, and within seconds I was grinning like an idiot. Seeing Koh Larn's coastline from that height is something photos can't capture.
